About this listen

Number one New York Times best-selling author Danielle Steel follows a talented and creative woman as she launches her first television series, helping to recruit an unforgettable cast that will bring a dramatic family saga to the screen.

Kait Whittier has built her magazine column into a hugely respected read followed by fans across the country. She loves her work and adores her grown children, treasuring the time they spend together. But after two marriages she prefers to avoid the complications and uncertainties of a new love. Then, after a chance meeting with Zack Winter, a television producer visiting Manhattan from Los Angeles, everything changes.

Inspired by the true story of her own indomitable grandmother, Kait creates the story line for a TV series. And when she shares her work with Zack, he is impressed and decides to make this his next big-budget project. Within weeks, Kait is plunged into a colorful world of actors and industry pros who will bring her vision to life. A cool, competent director. An eccentric young screenwriter. A world-famous actress coping with private tragedy. A reclusive grand dame from Hollywood's Golden Age. A sizzling starlet whose ego outstrips her abilities. LA's latest "bad boy" actor, whose affairs are setting LA on fire. An unknown ingenue with outsize talent. And a rugged, legendary leading man.

As secrets are shared, the cast becomes a second family for Kait. But in the midst of a charmed year, she is suddenly forced to confront the greatest challenge a mother could ever know. The strength of women - between generations, and among friends, colleagues, and family - takes center stage in this irresistible novel, as all-too-real people find the courage to persevere in life's drama of heartbreak and joy.

I enjoyed this book. It's an easy read. Kept my attention. Not very exciting, but enjoyable. I would recommend this book.

I believe this is my first from D. Steel.

I believe this was my very first book by Danielle Steel. I have to say I found it quite boring and was surprised when it was over. I said out loud "that was it? ". I will say her style of writing I really like so this won't n be the last book I read. I however found it somewhat repetitive. Not sure which book of hers I should try buy this was just so so for me.

Decent story but predictable

Easy read - decent story / but very predictable. Not many plot twists or things that the reader doesn’t see coming already. It was a nice story about a nice woman who has some pretty cool stuff happen to her later in life. Kind of nice to see that life can be full of positive surprises even as we grow older. Definitely a “beach read” or when you want something “easy”.

Could Have Been Better

I liked this one well enough but it was still meh. I wish these books didn't always have the easiest solution and the best possible scenarios for people I want more drama and tension than what we got in this one. But it wasn't terrible and I really enjoyed learning more about the behind the scenes on a TV show.

Boring

If you like Harlequin romances or Hallmark movies you might like this book...except there's nothing real life about the story at all and absolutely nothing unexpected or suspenseful.

Danielle - please stop writing books

I cannot put into words how much I despised this book. But I will try anyway and hopefully I wont go on and on like the author seemed to. It took almost 2 hours of listening before the book went anywhere. The two hours I spent listening to the narrator drone on and on about how being an empty nester is horrifying was only only made worse by the pretentious delivery of said material. So what was worse? The writing or the telling? Both were so bad that i cant even give this book a zero. Even if I can't get my money back I wish there was some way I could get that time back.

Poor narration

It was a superficial story, highly unrealistic and all female characters were narrated by a man.

Meh 🫤

I have read a few Danielle Steel books. This one was a disappointment.

First it started off incredibly slow and you would not know it was about The Cast.
It didn’t get even close to non boring till chapter 10. A TOTAL YAWNVILLE.

I’m having a hard time finishing this book. I’m putting this on hold for a bit.
