Publisher's Summary

The New York Times best-selling biography of an American comedy legend.

After three years of sobriety, Chris Farley's life was at its creative peak until a string of professional disappointments chased him back to drugs and alcohol. He fought hard against them, but it was a fight he would lose in December 1997. Farley's fans immediately drew parallels between his death and that of his idol, John Belushi. Without looking deeper, however, many failed to see that Farley was much more than just another Hollywood drug overdose. In this officially authorized oral history, Farley's friends and family remember his work and life. Along the way, they tell a remarkable story of boundless energy, determination, and laughter that could only keep the demons at bay for so long.

What the critics say

“the newly released audiobook edition of The Chris Farley Show, an oral biography co-edited by Farley’s brother Tom and journalist Tanner Colby, is full of reminders of how close he had already come to a mid-career breakthrough. ( Salon)

Awesome

I love this book. At 45 I lived through his era. The Sandler era. my friends and I speak of him from time to time as well as Phil Hartman. this family did a fantastic job putting this book together. The interviews are very widespread and seemed most honest from his friends as well. I have listen to just about all of the big biographies inaudible and this one by far as my favorite

Gone Too Soon

I learned a lot about Farley, always a fan since I was a kid. It's sad he couldn't stay longer. RIP Chris. 🙏

Fun, sad, enlightening and inspiring

My sadness was present from the start of the book because we all know how it ends. That sadness was mixed with so many smiles and bursts of laughter before I found myself sobbing through the last chapter. There is so much more to Chris’s story then what we knew. This book both confirmed he was the soft sensitive humble guy we all thought we knew and loved while also exposing who the guy was we didn’t know, the one suffering just below the surface full of demons and doubt. All of the stories and memories shared by his family and friends are both gut wrenching and beautiful. If only Chris Farley knew how much love there was and is still for him, I wish he could have really understood how truly special and unique he obviously was.

Deeply sad, but worth the time

It is hard to express how this book made me feel. I did not grow up during Farley's career. His life was tragic in the most profound sense of the word. This book is challenging, but the reader comes away a richer person for knowing Farley's story.

good

the reader seemed bored at times, however this was also hilarious when reading some of the actors dialogue, especially when you know how the actual actor would have spoken.
