About this listen

In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street - and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.

The special Collector’s First Edition will include a never-before-seen letter from Will to his family!

With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move - and that one of their own has betrayed them.

Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will - the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?

As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

Narration WAY better than 1st book

Really enjoyed this book, as much as all other Cassandra Clare's books. The Narration was much better in this book than the 1st in the infernal devices series.

I liked it way more than I originally thought!

I truly loved the original series the mortal instruments, so I was reluctant that the other books could be entertaining and as well lived. But they really are awesome! I’m so happy I gave it a chance!! #Audible1

Overall great

I also have the hardcover, so I would read most chapters with the book, but Will’s and Magnus’ chapters were a must with the audio book. I loved Ed Westwick as a narrator! He really gave me so many feelings. I didn’t like the girl’s narration tho, it was meh. But I would totally recommend to get it! The story is great!

Fantastic book. Dissapointing narrating.

The narrator inconsistency hurts the immersive sense from the first book. Other than that I highly recommend continuing the series if you've always read the first book.

Great Read

The beginning was a tad slow then picked up. But as usual the book had it all, at times made you happy to sad to angry. Excellent book.

Voice acting is subpar.

Excellent story over all however the voice acting was terrible on the mans part.

When I ready there would be two narrators of different genders I had hoped each would each voice their respective sexes. This was not the case. At times Tessa sounds like a man and Jem like a woman. It was so distracting that I had to turn it off and just read my own copy of the book.
Honestly if the male narrator had just read the story in his own voice for the entire 15 hrs+ I would have given it a much higher rating. As his natural voice is lovely to listen to.
If this is your free audio book then give it a go but if your paying I’d say skip it and just read the book yourself.

Loved it

I love reading books, but have failing eyesight. My son introduced me to Audio Books, what a delightful surprise
it has been. I loved it so much, and look forward to selecting my next book.
