Who is Ariadne Hui?
- Laser-focused lawyer diligently climbing the corporate ladder
- The “perfect” daughter living out her father’s dream
- Shocking love interest of South Korea’s hottest star
Ariadne Hui thrives on routine. So what if everything in her life is planned down to the minute: That’s the way she likes it. If she’s going to make partner in Toronto’s most prestigious law firm, she needs to stay focused at all times.
But when she comes home after yet another soul-sucking day to find an unfamiliar, gorgeous man camped out in her living room, focus is the last thing on her mind. Especially when her roommate explains this is Choi Jihoon, her cousin freshly arrived from Seoul to mend a broken heart. He just needs a few weeks to rest and heal; Ari will barely even know he’s there. (Yeah, right.)
Jihoon is kindness and chaos personified, and it isn’t long before she’s falling, hard. But when one wrong step leads to a world-shaking truth, Ari finds herself thrust onto the world stage: not as the competent, steely lawyer she’s fought so hard to become, but as the mystery woman on the arm of a man the entire world claims to know. Now with her heart, her future, and her sense of self on the line, Ari will have to cut through all the pretty lies to find the truth of her relationship...and discover the Ariadne Hui she’s finally ready to be.

Story
For Dee Kwan, every day is the perfect day. No, really. She has a house she loves, a job she adores, and a ridiculously attractive “nemesis” who never seems to mind when she wins their favorite online game. How can life possibly get better? (It can’t, obviously. It can only get much, much worse.) Soon Dee is forced to share her adorably cozy home with her parents and estranged grandmother. Then she’s tossed into the deep end at work, tasked with cleaning up a scandal for the intimidatingly chic luxury fashion firm Celeste. If that weren’t enough, she discovers her hot nemesis works there, too.

Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth...when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Kal.

the audio version of a page turner for me
Really enjoyed it, and Phillipa Soo's narration. Made me laugh aloud a few times. I was also relieved when I thought the book was coming to an end, but there was still 5 hours left. Would recommend, and might repeat in the future.

10 stars!
Both books by this author and narrator have been 2 or my favourites audio books i have lisened to since becoming a member. Lily Chu is an incredible autor who brings such depth to the characters and story it sucks you in. Phillipa Soo is a fantastic narrator who brings so much life to the characters. The combination of author and narrator is a potent mix that will take you on a wonderful journey of love and heartache. I wish there were more. will definitely be reading more by these two!

Interesting lives, light entertainment
This was an enjoyable change from my usual mystery thrillers & sci-fi reads! It was light, entertaining, interesting, well-written & narrated. It was a new-to-me view into other's lives, and it was Canadian!

Change is Difficult
Listeners had an opportunity to see the world through the eyes of an Asian living in a different culture.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is fearful of changing their life path.

A truly engaging story
I don’t often read/listen to romance novels and originally chose this for background noise because I love Philippa Soo, but I got sucked right into this story very quickly. Its witty and humorous narrative style make it really easy to like the characters and you just want them to make it together.
I absolutely recommend this and I hope there will be a sequel. For now, I’ll have to listen to the author’s other Audible Original: the Stand-In.

Loved it
I enjoyed the story, characters and culture. I didn’t want to put it down. Books are rarely set in Canada, I appreciated that.

Awesome
It was great. I read "the stand in", and I noticed that some of the same characters and things are mentioned. Cool.
