About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
This Penguin Classic is performed by Arinzé Kene, writer and performer of Olivier Award nominated Misty, and also known for his roles in Youngers, Informer and Eastenders. This definitive recording includes an Introduction by Gareth Stedman Jones.
The Communist Manifesto (1848), Marx and Engels's revolutionary summons to the working classes, is one of the most important and influential political theories ever formulated. After four years of collaboration the authors produced this incisive account of their idea of Communism, in which they envisage a society without classes, private property or a state. They argue that increasing exploitation of industrial workers will eventually lead to a revolution in which Capitalism is overthrown. This vision provided the theoretical basis of political systems in Russia, China, Cuba and Eastern Europe, affecting the lives of millions. The Communist Manifesto still remains a landmark text: a work that continues to influence and provoke debate on capitalism and class.

Excellent version
I really liked the introduction and placing the book and authors into their historical context. The history of this work was very interesting and informative. I didn't realize how small the text itself was so I really felt the value that this added to my purchase.

Refresher time
I read the Manifesto years ago and decided it was time to refresh my memory.
I liked this version since the first part provided excellent context for all of the social and political movements involved in developing this Manifesto.

Intro is longer than the actual book
Title ^ plus the introduction argues against the work and disclaims it/its arguments/its significance. It ruins the work and biases me toward it before I've even heard the opening line

Already dry material, narrator made it worse
Couldn't bear the flat tone after 5 minutes into listening, had to return it. Continue to look for better version.

Too long
The reading is done fairly well, but their is a prelude to the prelude that basically attempts to make the ridiculous claim that communism is irrelevant in modern times. Anyways the info for the book in the first 11 chapters is good and the context setup is nice, as long as you ignore the blatant capitalist propaganda scattered about. If your only interested in the actual manifesto it’s just the entire last chapter.
