Not terrible
Firstlly I would like to mention I am only halfway through the series and am currently on book 4. So far what I can say about this series is that the author seems to enjoy writing people with a bad attitude. It seems like almost every person we run into is in a foul mood, wanting trouble or is quick tempered. I feel sorry for tavern owners in Ansu, as it seems almost every time we enter one there is some type of scuffle, murder, threat or robbery. Most of that aside, the story itself did take a bit getting into. The narrator didn't seem to help with that. Accent wasn't too bad if you're familiar with Scottish/Irish accents. But it was the way the narrator read, it felt as though every sentence was read individually and the narrator didn't actually pay attention to the scenario he was reading. It felt hard to keep an open interest when the narrator doesn't bring home a good climactic scene and leaves it sounding dull. I'd recommend reading this yourself rather than listening to it so you can give the characters your own voice and tone. As well, one thing that very much stood out in my eyes was the inconsistencies between books. It felt as if the author wrote a book then moved to the next not bothering to check back at his previous book or even notes. Characters are just forgotten about, backstories are altered and even questions that have already been answered get brought back up as if we hadn't resolved them in the previous book. I read somewhere that the author had initially started his series with the Shattered Crown, the 4th book, and then went back and wrote the first 3 as a prequel to it. It definitely feels this way and that the author didn't bother going back to the 4th book and updating it to be consistent with what he wrote in the first 3 books. Overall the series isn't horrible and I will leave a follow up review after fully completing it.

This was awesome.
This was a phenomenal book series. I had never heard of it, I thought it was a real shot in the dark to delve into this, but it really impressed me. A well-woven story for sure. I will go back to this again. I'm moving on to more of the Legends of Ansu books, just gotta figure out which comes next after this story. Can't say enough how much I loved this tale, and getting all 6 books for one credit on Audible was an absolute steal.
