About this listen

Sharply observant and wickedly funny, E.F. Benson's six Mapp and Lucia novels satirize the upper-middle-class social climbers in 1920s and '30s rural England. Games of bridge and cups of tea fuel hilarious gossip and vindictive plots a-plenty. It is a masterfully sustained spotlight on the minutiae of village life - a clever and ultimately heart-warming series that seems tailor-made for audio. Volume 1 contains the first three books.

A Delight

Georgina Sutton's reading of the Mapp & Lucia series is delightful. The voices she gives to Captain Puffin and Kenneth Bartlett are less successful than the rest of her portrayals but, on the whole, a marvelous performance. A small bone to pick concerns technical issues. Could the three titles in vol.1 not have better indexing? I played in iTunes and the display did show some chapter info, but apart from bookmarking, there didn't seem to be a quick way to access the individual books/chapters. Perhaps players other than iTunes produce better results? Recommendations welcome. Hope you enjoy this audiobook as much as I did. Cheers.
