About this listen
Published under a pseudonym, J. K. Rowling’s brilliant debut mystery introduces Detective Cormoran Strike as he investigates a supermodel's suicide in “one of the best books of the year” (USA Today).
After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, creditors are calling, and after a breakup with his longtime girlfriend, he’s living in his office.
Then John Bristow walks through his door with a shocking story: His sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry - known to her friends as the Cuckoo - famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.
You may think you know detectives, but you've never met one quite like Strike. You may think you know about the wealthy and famous, but you've never seen them under an investigation like this.
Fast-paced and sharply drawn, this dazzling detective novel inspired Strike, the BBC crime drama series that has captivated millions of viewers worldwide.

Excellent writing and narration
I loved this audiobook and the narrator is excellent. I expected no less from Robert Galbraith and was very happy to see that this writer can write any kind of genre. I never really guessed the outcome and was entranced the entire way through the narration. Very happy that the second book is narrated by the same person. A good narrator is key and this one is excellent.

pretty good
The book itself was pretty good. The narrator was fantastic! First book that didn't blow out ear drums with headset on and no panic to the voice. I would listen again just for the narrator!

Excellent story with well developed characters
The story is well developed and the characters have such distinct personalities that over the course of the story one can picture them with complete detail. The locations are described such that I could picture them and feel that I could recognize them if I were to visit the areas.
If ever a movie is made from any of these stories, it probably would be difficult to find actors who could match the images the stories create, so vivid are they in my imagination.

Good book
A well written story well told. Interesting, intelligent and better twist than Arthur Conan Doyle.

A good read
This was an entertaining listen on my walks. I liked the character development but got bored with the description of the settings. Suspected everybody but the guilty person. 😄the narrator did a great job of portraying the characters.
