His rival, a soul monger named Neil Osterhaus, wouldn't be such a problem were it not for Carmen, Dorian's captivating ex-lover. After two years' absence Carmen arrives at Dorian's doorstep with a problem: she sold her soul to Osterhaus, and has only two weeks to buy it back. Hoping to win back Carmen's affections, Dorian must find a replacement soul without tainting his own.

Unique take on Urban Fantasy


This is my first review, I'll do my best.

Dorian Lake was the guy to see for charms and hexes. He comes across as a world-weary man. From the start, we see his internal struggles. However, he steps up. He has charm but a big mouth.

A unique take on a world of magic, more like the practice of voodoo. It was definitely interesting and intriguing. Dorian only offer his services to a select client and tried to avoid shady business. He tried his best avoid a black mark on his Karma. However, life throws unexpected curve balls at him.

Neil Hellegers did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life.

The Curse Merchant was well written. Charters were very well developed and it very easy to relate to Dorian Lake.

The story draws you in from the very beginning and can't wait to see what comes next. There is a dark element to the plot. There are unexpected twists and turns, and decent transition to the next book. I definitely recommend this book.
