Publisher's Summary

Lovely Alice Lacey was a true incomparable, and her marriage to the Duke of Ferrant was the event of the season. Almost no one realized, however, that Alice was secretly in love with someone else - or that she had confided her feelings to a clever talking mynah bird who announces these intimacies at the moment of the couple's wedding.

Now the gossip mongers are relentless. Alice's marriage started out, and has remained, cold and impersonal, and her new husband is already rumored to be taken with another woman.

Before she even realizes what is happening, Alice finds herself in a world of opposites: The man she thought she loved is something other than he seems; and the man she married, something far more than she hoped. Her last hope and redemption has to be convincing the man she wedded that they are in love.

A fun listen

Such a silly romantic novel. The characters drove me crazy. And yet I couldn’t stop listening. So I recommend even though the bird at the end got it right. If you listen you’ll understand. Enjoy!

Weak story, horrible narrator

Although she’s not bad in dialogues, the nasal, flat voice of the narrator and absence of pauses or inflection made the book hard to finish.

Awful

It had potential in the beginning and the narrator did a fabulous job as always but the story was horrible. The duke was a jealous jerk and he purposely was hurting his wife and being too rough during intimacy because he was jealous of her previous infatuation with another man. She was a virgin when they married and he was not and he was mad at her for thinking herself naively in love with another man whom she had never kissed. I didn’t appreciate the explicit descriptions of sex either. Much prefer closed door romances. I can understand hurting from misunderstandings and working through things but he was so terrible by the end that I really hated him. I was hoping to find another author to enjoy but I will not be listening to anymore by this author. One and done.
