About this listen

Trick the humans, steal the gold, gain the power, achieve god-like status. The motivations of a Diabolical Dragon.

Orion's unknown father...yeah, that shitty guy was a fey dragon. When Orion matures into a man, he spends a day in the snow transforming into a warehouse-sized dragon. Now he's hunted. Vile humans want to adorn his head as a trophy in their halls. Except, instead of letting the humans hound him, Orion blends in, swapping between dragon and human to carry out his diabolical plans.

Warning: This novella is not for the faint of heart. It contains a bad guy...an actual villain. Does he have motivations? Sure, but he still is the Diabolical Dragon. Contains a magical fantasy setting where men use dowries for their daughters, monster fey are considered scum, and nobility can do just about anything they want if they have enough gold.

This second edition contains all new chapters with 20 percent more content than before. Enjoy.

Fun Listen

I had a good time with this one. This is not a redemption story, it's not a fresh start on life filled with the fantastic. It's 's a story about a quite possibly sociopathic dragon-human shift looking to gain more power and riches, and very unapologetic about it. It's quite refreshing compared to what's normally seen in the genre. I'd love to see a sequel with a time skip, but even if it doesn't happen, we still have this gem.

Somewhat confusing to follow.

First I want to make an assumption that the writer was going for something that maybe I didn't quite clue into. it isn't as if the book was poorly written or narrated, the opposite actually I found the voice acting rather well done and I especially would like to know how they managed to get the deep voices for the characters, male and female, in their dragon forms. There was just something missing I think in general from the story... most times when you read a book or watch a movie where the "Villain" or anti-hero is the protagonist you expect a certain level of back dealing and double crossing etc... etc... with this novel I think the biggest draw back is that there really isn't the opportunity to set up an adequate foil to Orion. Yes I understand that he's the badass big-top-Alpha-male-gonna-kick-ass-and-take-slaves character but there isn't really anything that truly poses a threat to him... nothing to spur him onward other than the proverbial F^$# Bi+€#s Make Money moniker. The few times that our protagonist is backed into a corner it just feels like the time skips are utilized to sweep it away and under the rug. e.g.
"Oh-no Orion there is an army coming our way and you need to bring your mates to save us from the rat kin"
Orion: "I will do this thing but it will cost you" Other Kingdom "Okay we agree because otherwise we will all die and or be F^$#Ed by rat kin.
O:"Fine but you will pay up-front"
K:"Dam you here's your money"
O:"Thank you now I will go to lead your troops"
**end Scene**
Next Chapter
some time has passed
Orion: hey wasn't it awesome what we did to those Rat Kins that invaded us 10 years ago.... yeah... good times. (event only mentioned In passing going forward) I am obviously paraphrasing but it feels like massive opportunities are wasted in actually developing the characters instead we learn of their adaptations through the characters telling us *the old me would have just burnt the walls to cinders and ate the still on fire peasants... now I'm sad a kitten got squished* With that out of my system, the world building is quite impressive and the different places and ways of life that the crew do interact with is varied quite well to the point where even though Orion may be an ass there are worse fates out there. I feel this story would have felt better with a solid antagonist.. someone actively attempting to stop Orions plan, a Guild, Rival kingdom, hell even another shifter aware of what he's trying to pull and after what he's got. It was still a good read/listen and I did want to see what Orion and crew would do next buy it just feels disconnected between episodes but it wasn't a strong enough want to make me look for time in my day to continue, just listen to it when the time arose.
