About this listen
Intense, brilliant and moving, The Door is a compelling story about the relationship between two women of opposing backgrounds and personalities: one, an intellectual and writer; the other, her housekeeper, a mysterious, elderly woman who sets her own rules and abjures religion, education, pretense and any kind of authority. Beneath this hardened exterior of Emerence lies a painful story that must be concealed. One of Hungary's best-known writers, Magda Szabo' here explores themes of love, loyalty, pride and privacy, and the barriers and secrets that govern them.

From a great writer
The story is interesting , but the narrator absolutely butchers the Hungarian names and places mentioned in the book,
I wonder how difficult would have been to do a little research , or ask a native speaker to help with the pronunciation .......
Really disappointing the lack of respect towards the original language from the narrator and whomever allowed this to be published in audio this way

Compelling
I loved The Door. This is not an action-packed story, but the characters were so compelling that I could not stop listening. I have given the book as gifts to two people. I hope they love it as much as I did.

A book about nothing
The book could have been collapsed to one paragraph.
It is so so boring. The worst I listen to ever.
