Publisher's Summary

Some are born to power. Some seize it. And some have the wisdom never to wield it.

The Red Knight has stood against soldiers, armies, and the might of an empire without flinching. He's fought on real and magical battlefields alike, and now he's facing one of the greatest challenges yet. A tournament.

A joyous spring event, the flower of the nobility will ride against each other for royal favor and acclaim. It's a political contest - one that the Red Knight has the skill to win. But the stakes may be higher than he thinks. The court of Alba has been infiltrated by a dangerous faction of warlike knights, led by the greatest knight in the world: Jean de Vrailly - and the prize he's fighting for isn't royal favor but the throne of Alba itself....

This is the third book in the Traitor Son Cycle, following The Red Knight and The Fell Sword.

No Offense to Niel Dickson

I just liked the first reader better. Ongoing story was still appreciated. It is stupid they require a minimum number of words per review.

Complex but sooo good!

First off, I have to share my thoughts about the narrator - he’s very good. His only fault is to have the misfortune of taking over from a narrator who was truly sublime. Yes, I was disappointed for the first 30 minutes or so, but I quickly came to appreciate Neil Dickson’s skills. His Bad Tom is particularly good, IMHO.

Anyway, the Red Knight series is complex, with nearly as many places and characters and heads of state as Game of Thrones, so I recommend trying your hardest to learn the names way back in book 1, as that knowledge will pay off throughout. Also, look at an online map of the world so that you can imagine the locations and keep them straight-ish.

Wonderful story, book 3! I think it’s my favorite so far. Great character development, lots of tense action and political maneuvering, and some serious epicness to be had.
