About this listen

Jeremy

Seeing my best friend West happy with his fiancé opened my eyes to things I’ve been missing in my own marriage. My divorce, which was amicable, followed. Strangely, at West’s wedding, I find myself confiding in Darren, the straight, confirmed bachelor and star quarterback of the Atlanta Lightning. Darren is a full-steam-ahead kind of guy, and one talk leads to hanging out, swapping phone numbers, and pranking West and Anson while they’re on their honeymoon. When I head back to California, I expect our chats to end, but I couldn’t be more wrong.

Darren

I still can’t say how it happened, how a random decision to strike up a conversation with Jeremy turned into...whatever this is. All I know is, months later, my days aren’t complete until we tell each other good night. Whether it’s on our calls or when he flies to Atlanta, we talk about everything, lying awake together half the night. Jeremy’s got me feeling...different. If it was just my newly discovered bisexuality, that’d be one thing. I’m not one to stress about being into a man for the first time. It’s the other stuff, the way he makes my pulse race and my heart swell, that’s throwing me for a loop.

I didn’t think I was made for relationships; I thought something inside me was broken, but I want it all with him. Except, it feels like as soon as we make it past one obstacle, there’s an even bigger one waiting for us. We just have to keep our heads in the game and our eyes on the prize to make it to the end zone, before one last tackle takes us down for good.

This is book 2 but it can be read as a standalone. However if u do plan to read both then read them in order cause this book has updates on the previous couple.

Jeremy is gay and freshly divorced. He is Wests (from book 1) friend. Darren is on the same football team as Anson (from book 1) and is straight and the bachelor of the bunch. The 2 of them meet at the start and keep each other cpmpany as the only single ones and they bond. They end up exchanging phone numbers and stay in close and constant contact, bonding first as friends. They also do volunteer work together at the place West helps out at. As time passes feelings grow that Darren has never had before for anyone, especially not for a man and Jeremy can't help but compare any available man to his perfect new best friend. When sharing secrets in conversations leads to flirting and confessions, greatness follows but so does alot of obstacles, drama and of course homophobic backlash.

I loved this book. It was sweet and sexy and full of fun banter and great and interesting plot. It was way better than the first book IMO. This couple drew me in from the start and I could not put this book down even though I'm not into sports. The 2 MCs were both so loveable and a perfect match and had amazing chemistry together. The story moved at a organic pace and the relationship development was perfect. Nothing felt installove. It definitely was a gradual buildup. Though there was instant sparks. Once they got together there were a ton of super steamy scenes and dirty talk. I would definitely say even more than you would normally expect from Rileys other books. It was definitely high heat and very low angst. There are some time jumps but there is still so much content there that it didn't feel like anything was rushed or skipped over. Another reason I enjoyed this book more than the first is cause even though they do text and call each other, I found that there was more in person content between the 2 MCs so it allowed for a more intense connection and as I said before lots of steam. I would absolutely recommend this book.

This was my first time listening to Benjamin and I loved his voice. He was perfect for the character. 5 stars for him. I personally am not a fan of Iggy Toma and didn't think he fit the character. His parts weren't awful but they were just ok. I like him better for older characters or for cowboy/ranch books. 3 stars for him. So I averaged the 2 and said 4 stars for the narration overall.

Perfection

Iggy Toma and Benjamin Charles were PERFECT for this book! I have listened to it so many times now, it's at the top of my favourites list. I adore the evolution of the relationship between Darren and Jeremy. Watching it go from a deep friendship to so much more. This is a beautiful story.
