About this listen
In order to reclaim her throne and save her people, an ousted queen must join forces with a young warrior in the second book of this "relentlessly gripping, brilliant" epic fantasy series from a breakout author (James Islington).
Tau and his Queen, desperate to delay the impending attack on the capital by the indigenous people of Xidda, craft a dangerous plan. If Tau succeeds, the Queen will have the time she needs to assemble her forces and launch an all out assault on her own capital city, where her sister is being propped up as the "true" Queen of the Omehi.
If the city can be taken, if Tsiora can reclaim her throne, and if she can reunite her people then the Omehi have a chance to survive the onslaught.

Great sequel
Great sequel to the first book. Pay off for certain events from the first book. Escalation of all conflicts for all the characters. A lot of introspection and growth from them as well. I cannot wait to read the third.

A Fierce Sequel
Another action-packed story filled with battles, vengeance, demons, and determined warriors. I enjoyed this sequel immensely and am eagerly awaiting the next book.
The story follows Tau Solarin in his new position as Champion to the queen as she tries to establish and reclaim her authority. Along the way, Tau must battle demons both internally and externally. While I really liked RAGE, its sequel shines even brighter. The story focuses more on Tau as a character and his complex interactions with friends, allies, and potential lovers. In FIRES, I feel like we truly get to know him and see his progression as he pushes himself to the breaking point.
I also enjoyed the brief glimpses we had into the minds of other characters connected to Tau. It made the story fresh and added some unpredictability. I was glad to spend more time with side characters, since they seamlessly wove into Tau's story. Not only did they show him his strengths, they added to his weaknesses, creating a more complex hero.
The action is once again, top-notch. It's brutal, intense, and leads to some harrowing moments. The story also goes deeper into the lore of the world and even the demons. It creates a more immersive feel and has me eager to learn more.
FIRES is a thrilling sequel filled with complicated characters, rich world building, pulse pounding action, and a story as fierce as it is emotional. Great for anyone who loves epic high fantasy adventures!

Engrossing
While the first book focuses on Tau's singlemindedness, the second book introduces characters that start to pull Tau from grief, violence and vengeance into a leader, and starts to make him more rounded - giving him a chance to explore emotions outside of his struggle to survive - you can feel his innocence when introduced into unfamiliar emotions or scenarios (being gifted Fury or shyness outside the Queen's door).
The fight scenes continue to be well written, bloody and violent. The politics and characters make Tau's world more substantive - we start to understand more of the Omehi culture.
Mr. Onayemi's voice acting is incredible - his ability to soften his tone, accent and inflection to bring the female and male characters alive is mesmerizing.
Well written and engrossing second book from Mr. Winter, I am genuinely impatient for the final book!

Incredible
Living up to The Rage Of Dragons is an impossible feat, but one that Evan winter pulls off irrevocably. This entry in The Burning lets us live with the characters, it shows the humanity in the soldiers and figureheads we were introduced to previously. Winter adds another masterpiece to his young career.
