About this listen

Move back through time into the alluring worlds of the Alchemists' Council

The anticipated second book in Cynthea Masson's series takes listeners to Flaw Dimension, centuries before the events of Book One. Rebel scribe Genevre, exploring secreted libraries with Dragonsblood pulsing through her young veins, accidentally discovers a 5th-Council manuscript with a long-forgotten alchemical formula whose implications could permanently transform both the Alchemists' Council and the Rebel Branch.

A revolution looms as High Azoth Dracaen strengthens the power of the Rebel Branch, Cedar and Saule take treacherous steps against fellow alchemists, and the unprecedented mutual conjunction of Ilex and Melia changes the fate of all dimensions. With insurgents gathering, Ilex and Melia's attempt to open a forbidden breach through time could bring salvation - or total destruction - to the elemental balance of the world.

The battle over free will for all of humanity continues in The Flaw in the Stone, the remarkable second installment of this epic fantasy trilogy.

What the critics say

"A distinctive style; fascinating alchemical world building; and a strong, epic goal make this a delightful follow-up to The Alchemists' Council, and it sets up the complex interaction between everyone's contingency plans beautifully, with twists and turns that promise a satisfying conclusion." (Booklist)

"This series is well-constructed and original. Cynthea Masson does an excellent job of balancing the good and evil of her flawed characters." (CM Magazine)

medieval alchemical manuscripts brought to life

The second installment in this series all about Ilex and Melia who were alluded to in book 1. I was thoroughly engrossed throughout and could not get enough. You may want to start a family tree to keep track of all the Alchemists though, because the world gets even bigger in this novel. i think I devoured the entire series in about a week. I hope this book and the third get the Booktracks treatment because it made The Alchemists Council feel even more magical.

A magical second instalment

This book is the perfect follow-up to Mason’s first book, The Alchemist Council (definitely read that first, spoilers abound). The narrative keeps you engaged, there are stories within stories, everyone has a hidden agenda, and moral complexities abound. A very enjoyable listening experience. Much preferred the reader of this second book to the first one.

Not boring but not overly interesing. Prt,2

Was a struggle to finish just like the first book. Santa fe chapter repeats itself a bit 16mins and 18mins in. Nothing really happens except a few disappearing. Would of loved to hear more about the 80 terminated children...
