About this listen
Book two of the Dawn of Fire series
As the Indomitus Crusade spreads across the Imperium Sanctus, the cardinal world Gathalamor is caught in the grip of war - but when an ancient evil is unearthed, the entire crusade is threatened....
Listen to it because: with the crusade in full flow, get your first look at the full scale of the horrors inflicted upon the Imperium and the determination of Guilliman to defeat them and reunite the emperor's realm.
The story: as the Indomitus Crusade begins, fleets of mighty warships leave Terra on a vital quest to stabilise Imperium Sanctus in the wake of the Great Rift. The returned primarch, Roboute Guilliman, leads a huge force towards the shrine world of Gathalamor, where stable warp routes will allow the flotilla to spread across the beleaguered southern half of the Imperium.
But grave tidings reach the Imperial Regent’s ears. Warnings from an ancient race, and eerie silence from the army tasked with holding Gathalamor until his arrival, lead Guilliman to send a reconnaissance mission to the world, at its head, Shield-Captain Achallor of the Adeptus Custodes.
Achallor discovers a world on the brink: a beaten Imperial force and sinister agents of Abaddon the Despoiler who have unearthed an ancient evil - a weapon that when harnessed not only threatens the primarch, but perhaps the holy Throne of Terra itself....

Excellent continuation
A solid next step in the story. Enjoyable good narration, and an all-too human story. Well done!

I wish there was more! I love it!
I loved the part where Custodes was kicking traitor astartes ass. The astra Militarum part could've been expanded.

Great new story
Loved the new story in the series. I always want to find out what’s going on in the most current moments of 40k. Only issue I really had with this is that it felt like no idea was left on the cutting room floor. Lots and lots of characters and POVs means you don’t really get to stick with anyone for long.
I do love John Banks though. He will always be Valerian to me.

A Good Oomph For Chaos
This series gets better. First, a gaggle of Custodes kill counting and complaining about stolen kills. they live Doom for shits and giggles. second, Custodes.
not every lost battle is a battle lost. - Abbadon, probably.

Rollercoaster-Ride Adventure
The topic of this Andy Clark entry in the 'Dawn Of Fire: Warhammer 40,000' sub-trilogy is the initiation of Roboute Guilliman's Indomitus Crusade from Terra. Right from the start, the Daemon/Chaos forces find and use an artifactual weapon to attack the Imperial Armada almost before it launches.
Clark's imaginative twisty-turny plot captures the attack-counterattack strategy & tactics of War: putting us in the planning rooms and trenches of both sides of the conflict - capturing philosophies and personalities beautifully.. while describing the action with mind's-eye vivid skill.
Don't get me wrong, the book has some flaws (the dialogue is annoyingly stilted, for example), but I very much enjoyed it.
Doubtless, a genuinely outstanding narration from John Banks contributed to my glowing assessment of the book. True, he takes injudicious deep breaths occasionally, but this is one of the best reading performances that I have heard from Mr. Banks.
Altogether, 'The Gate Of Bones' is a 9/10-star audiobook. Spend the Credit.

Flat characters
Silly, tropes, flat. Not up to par with Horus Heresy. Very boring at times despite great voice actors.
