Pen may not believe in ghosts, but she does believe in good publicity - like nabbing Timothy Brennan for a book signing. But after ten years and a little friendly cajoling from the owner (a fresh pot of Jamaican Blue Mountain was all it took), she's back to the grind. With a sprawling rent-free apartment directly above the Village Blend, her cat Java by her side, and plenty of coffeehouse redecorating ideas, Clare is thrilled to return to work. Until she discovers the assistant manager unconscious in the back of the store, coffee grounds strewn everywhere.

Publisher's Summary
Bookshop owner Penelope Thornton-McClure and her gumshoe ghost team up to solve the stunning mystery at the heart of a so-called "madwoman's" self-portrait in this all-new installment from New York Times best-selling author Cleo Coyle.
While gathering a collection of vintage book cover paintings for a special event in her quaint Rhode Island bookshop, Penelope discovers a spooky portrait of a beautiful woman, one who supposedly went mad, according to town gossip. Seymour, the local mailman, falls in love with the haunting image and buys the picture, refusing to part with it, even as fatal accidents befall those around it. Is the canvas cursed? Or is something more sinister at work?
For answers, Pen turns to an otherworldly source: Jack Shepard, PI. Back in the 1940s, Jack cracked a case of a killer cover artist, and (to Pen's relief) his spirit is willing to help her solve this mystery, even if he and his license did expire decades ago.

Not a good narrator
Good story as always ways but the narrator is to aggressive and she’s managed to make jack sound like a complete a-hole. If you can get passed the narrator it’s a good listen.

Change
Surprised the narators changed to one other person narrating the story. Was still very good but I felt like this was a different story because of this change.

Changed narrator
I miss the original narrators. The use of a man and a woman gave this series a unique feel that is gone now.

Narration Makes the Difference
Caroline Shaffer and Traber Burns were the original narrators of this charming cozy mystery series. I fell in love! The stories were intriguing, the cast of characters loveable.
The change to Traci Odom as the sole narrator has ruined the series for me. The softness that the main character had has been lost. The delivery of Penelope's lines in particular are so harsh, not the same character at all. I am soooo disappointed.
