About this listen

An extraordinary true story of resilience, courage, hope and finding lightness after the heaviest of landings.

What if we could figure out a way to see beauty in every part of living—the world, its people and its lessons? To still be able to feel pain and sadness, but see it all as part of this wild ride we call life? We often tell ourselves we'll be grateful when we have that job, or get that car, or that outfit. But what if we could just change our mindsets to one of wonder, of appreciation, of awe in simply being?

For years, Emma Carey was a regular young adult who would wake up and go about their day on autopilot, someone who would look at a sunset and feel unaffected, someone who was living, but not really alive. That is, until something happened that enabled her to really see life for the gift it is. Emma was in a skydiving accident that made her a paraplegic. This book is not just about Emma's fall from the sky and how she learned to walk without ever regaining feeling in her legs but also about the beliefs and ideas that helped her survive. These are the beliefs and ideas that make her the happiest she's ever been.

While Emma did eventually learn how to walk again, her changed mindset is the thing she continues to be proudest of, and most grateful for. Emma's story is one that will capture your heart and heal your mind, as she guides us through what she has learned along the way. With a maturity and evenness beyond her years, as well as a down-to-earth approach to hope and possibility, Emma shows us how to live in the world when what we expected doesn't fit our reality. She shows us how to really look, and see beauty where it is.

A story about finding joy through trauma

A story that doesn’t make you feel alone in the process. An inspiring story of how joy and fulfilment are possible even when life gives you a hard hand.

What an incredible story

Emma has an incredible story to tell. I can’t imagine the hardship she’s endured. However, the writing of the book is not great. She speaks with too many hyperboles and almost toxic positivity. Overall, a good story and reminder that you choose your own happiness but I got bored halfway through and listened to it at 1.5x speed to just get through it
