Publisher's Summary

With her brother, Thomas, injured on the battlefront in the colonies, orphaned Cecilia Harcourt has two unbearable choices: move in with a maiden aunt or marry a scheming cousin. Instead she chooses option three and travels across the Atlantic, determined to nurse her brother back to health.

But after a week of searching, she finds not her brother but his best friend, the handsome officer Edward Rokesby. He's unconscious and in desperate need of her care, and Cecilia vows that she will save this soldier's life, even if staying by his side means telling one little lie.

When Edward comes to, he's more than a little confused. The blow to his head knocked out three months of his memory, but surely he would recall getting married. He knows who Cecilia Harcourt is - even if he does not recall her face - and with everyone calling her his wife, he decides it must be true, even though he'd always assumed he'd marry his neighbor back in England.

Cecilia risks her entire future by giving herself - completely - to the man she loves. But when the truth comes out, Edward may have a few surprises of his own for the new Mrs. Rokesby.

Featured Article: The Bridgertons Audiobooks in Chronological Order

In a fictional Regency-era London, the Bridgerton and the Featherington families depend on the marriages of their many children. Bridgertons has won over the hearts of millions, and Julia Quinn has likened the series to "a Cinderella story." Shonda Rhimes adapted the series of romance novels into the hugely popular Bridgerton Netflix series. Although a different character inspires each volume of the series, it’s best to enjoy the saga chronologically.

The Girl With The Make-Believe Husband

Excellent book. I have read and reread this book numerous Tim’s. It is funny and also has you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend reading the whole series, which is the prequels to the Bridgestons.

A semiBlind love match

I’m so happy Thomas was secretly helping Edward and Lucy find their ways together. Very strong of Lucy to leave to another world and edward wants nothing more than to be there for her/with her

Loved it

I’m a big Julia Quinn fan, and in my opinion this is her best book! It’s got a lot of substance to it and you feel the full range of emotions reading it. Narrator did an excellent job, her voice fits the story perfectly!

Great Narrator

Good plot, but very slow and sometimes even irritating. I liked Edward and his good nature.

DNF

After a whole novel worth of "Edward was supposed to be the one" in the first Rokeby story, I took the plunge with this one to learn about Edward and his fate.

Unfortunately, this story wasn't that interesting and the heroine isn't even close to as charming as Billie Bridgerton. So less than 2 hours in, I decided to just google what happens and, given that I am not happy with where this story is going, it's going to be a DNF instead of taking up any more of my time.
