About this listen

Now well into her apprenticeship with magician Emery Thane, 20-year-old Ceony Twill is continuing to discover the joy of paper magic. She adores bringing her spells to life in surprising ways, from learning the power of distortion to creating a beloved paper dog. And she secretly hopes that the romance she foresaw blossoming between her and the peculiar yet strikingly handsome Emery finally becomes real.

But when one magician with a penchant for deadly scheming believes that Ceony possesses a secret, he vows to discover it… even if it tears apart the very fabric of their magical world. After a series of attacks target Ceony, and catch those she holds most dear in the crossfire, she knows she must find the true limits of her powers… and keep her knowledge from falling into wicked hands.

The delightful sequel to Charlie N. Holmberg’s The Paper Magician, The Glass Magician will charm listeners young and old alike.

It's all done with mirrors

I have decided that these are young-adult novels, because Ceony Twill has a crush on her teacher, does not trust adults, and rushes heedlessly into danger. This story reinforces my initial judgment of "Harry Potter meets Jane Eyre."

There is a touch of James Bond Supervillain in the antagonist, because he is an idiot.

I was forced to read this series all at once, or go mad. More in the next review...

Expands the world

Glass magician does a great job at expanding the world. It answers some questions and explores different possibilities of the laws in the world. I was pleasantly surprised by the accents the reader could do. the French was quite good!

Cute, yet off...

So far it is a cute story with potential, a really creative magical system and the fantasy blended with real world places is charming.

And thing is the romance is.. odd.. never felt right with student teacher romances. They are both adults yes... but still student and teacher there is an authority dynamic with student and teacher that is not healthy for a romantic relationship.. it just feels wrong to me.
