Publisher's Summary

Hudson Booksellers Best of the Year 2021

"Reader [Barrie] Kreinik differentiates the sisters by giving Fern a crisp, detached tone (fitting with her character) and making Rose sound more emotional. Their Australian accents are charming.... Suspense builds as listeners search for the truth beneath the varying stories and plot twists. Fans of unreliable narrators will love this!" (Booklist)

Sally Hepworth, the author of The Mother-in-Law, delivers a knockout of a novel about the lies that bind two sisters in The Good Sister.

There's only been one time that Rose couldn't stop me from doing the wrong thing and that was a mistake that will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Fern Castle works in her local library. She has dinner with her twin sister, Rose, three nights a week. And she avoids crowds, bright lights, and loud noises as much as possible. Fern has a carefully structured life, and disrupting her routine can be...dangerous.

When Rose discovers that she cannot get pregnant, Fern sees her chance to pay her sister back for everything Rose has done for her. Fern can have a baby for Rose. She just needs to find a father. Simple.

Fern's mission will shake the foundations of the life she has carefully built for herself and stir up dark secrets from the past, in this quirky, rich, and shocking story of unexpected love.

Excellent All Around

This story covers some serious topics, but oh it's so much fun. I finished the entire novel in 2 days, as I worked on a quilting project. I just couldn't stop listening.
I fell in love with the characters Fern and Wally. This is one audio book that I will definitely read again.

Emotional and captivating with a touch of humour

The Australian accent took a bit of getting used to. However, once the characters were introduced... it’s only a matter of minutes and the narrator has drawn you into the story, captivating your curiosity.
Well written, it allows the reader to have a greater understanding of hyper sensitivity , mental illness and the twist and turns of sisterhood.

Very talented narrator

The story didn’t feel like a thriller. The “twist” was obvious from the very beginning. It was an entertaining story, didn’t drag, and the narrator is super talented considering she’s not actually Australian, but there was really no thrill at all to the story and you can’t say this was a twist. Disappointed.
