About this listen

Book 9 in the Ciaphas Cain series.

Hero of the Imperium, the legendary Commissar Ciaphas Cain, is back in the field, and this time he's facing down both the T'au Empire and the tyranids.

Listen to it because....

Treacherous t'au, terrifying tyranids and the irascible Commissar Cain – it all adds up to a classic tale from the master of Warhammer 40,000 comedy-action.

The story:

When the world of Quadravidia comes under attack by the insidious tau, only one man can defeat the aliens and save the planet in the Emperor's name – the legendary Hero of the Imperium, Commissar Ciaphas Cain. When the aliens call for a ceasefire, Cain expects the worst, and his fears are answered in the form of the dread menace of the tyranids. As a hive fleet approaches Quadravidia, Cain must try to forge an alliance between the Imperium and the t'au – but can he truly trust the inscrutable xenos?

CAIN HERO OF THE GREATER GOOD!

Once again we get a rare glimpse of the imperium actually not being horribly grim dark and putting common survival against a greater horror above xenocide or self inflicted tragedy. Maybe the imperium isn’t guide so bad as long as Cain is around eh?

I could not wait for more Cain

I got this one as soon as it became available. No other 40k series compares to this one. In fact I'm writing this about 4 hours into the story.

Finally!

This one was awesome!
But it felt like it could have been a lot longer, the ending felt rushed.

Overall it was entertaining, drove the lore forward and developed characters and story line.

The voice actors were on point as always.

Certainly recommend for a listen!

Best Character in WH40K

Great book, just as high quality as the other ones. The story is about a down-to-earth Commissar who is relatable and makes the best of whatever situation he finds himself in.

Very Disappointing

Doesn't really add anything new. Outside of the opening (which is great) the tau do nothing. We almost get a story about cain being sent as a diplomat to go help the tau fight the tyrranids but instead we get a story about him sitting on a forge world talking with tech priests. There are more interesting interactions with the tau in the first book. It ends up being one of the most forgettable cain books so far

A real dissappointment for a Tau fan

"Don't judge a book by its cover" really should not be a term used to deflect criticism when a book manages to pitch an interesting story and grab your attention with the cover and first impression. I'd say the story barely gets 1/4 of the way in before the conflict and idea that you'd think the book would be about gets pulled out from under you, replaced with something far more generic and commonplace in the Black Library. If you wanted a book about Cain interacting with Tau culture and contrasting it with his own warped perception of the Imperium then this is not that book.
