Publisher's Summary

An entertaining and easy-to-listen audiobook about a practical blueprint to simplify Canada's horribly frustratingly overly complicated tax system. The author shares his frustration with a wildly inefficient, impossibly complex, and heartlessly impersonal bureaucracy that routinely ensares honest, hard-working people in its labyrinthine maze. The Grumpy Accountant tells the story of Jerry, a typical Canadian, and George, his trusted grumpy accountant, who guides him through the tax system at every stage in life.

The Grumpy Accountant includes 29 critical tax tips to dramatically save you time, money, and hassle, including:

  • How to avoid common mistakes that invite CRA scrutiny
  • How to maximize the tax credits, deductions, and benefits that you're entitled to
  • Tax saving strategies for every stage in life: College/university, employment/self-employment, marriage, kids, entrepreneurship, and retirement
  • How to use online tools to keep organized and stay ahead of the game

Great Listen. Very informative.

Loved the author’s quirky dad joke style of writing. Easy to follow along with the story of a grumpy accountant and his client going through all of life’s tax challenges (first cheque, filing, marriage, children, self employment, retirement and death - to name a few). Everyone should read this book and rally to have the CRA do a tax reform! Thank you Neal :)

Exactly what I need to hear!

As a solo-preneur, navigating the waters of the early-ish days of my business and adult life, I found this to be informative and helpful. I too, dream of a less complicated tax filing future, but for now, I am grateful to have Neal's tips and encouragement to ensure I meet personal and business tax filing deadlines on time and with more ease than ever before. I appreciated the humour and historical context as well! Overall, exactly what I needed to listen to at this time and I think this would be helpful for families, seniors, and students who want to prepare themselves for what is to come.

Useful

It is a useful book to know and learn about. The information is very basic, but it helps to understand the big picture and things to be mindful of.
I did not particularly love the policy arguments, but it was expected given the name and the description of the book :)

Great info but the narrator was dreadful

This is a must for all Canadians as it has such great information but almost couldn't get through it, the narration was horrendous. The writing was pretty bad as well with the ongoing self praising... and story telling.

On the fence

Not bad. It’s one long rant which introduces a debate. The information is good, and I guess, as I got through it, was entertaining enough. Not sure I would recommend, but I wouldn’t outright discredit.
It has it’s merits. It was OK.
