Publisher's Summary

Frank Cotton's insatiable appetite for the dark pleasures of pain led him to the puzzle of Lemarchand's box, and from there, to a death only a sick-minded soul could invent. But his brother's love-crazed wife, Julia, has discovered a way to bring Frank back-though the price will be bloody and terrible . . . and there will certainly be hell to pay. This book is the basis for the blockbuster movie Hellraiser.

First movie, but less

This is probably going to be a controversial take, but I found this book to essentially be the first movie, but with less elements. The biggest difference is that the films are all, more or less, focused around the cenobites, whereas this book is mostly all about Frank. The book is obviously masterly written for its time, but by this point we are here for the cenobite lore. Of course the cenobites were fleshed out more by Barker when he created the first film, but in this book, they come off as little more than a street gang side plot.

Thrilling and Chilling

Barker was excellent, loved his preformance. I am coming off listening to Amityville Horror and this is everything I wished that would be. Absolutely intense and perfect length.

Loved It!

I prefer Clive Barker to Stephen King because he's more to the point. This is not a long winded fluff piece. It says what it needs to say and moves on.

Great story. It felt as if I was watching Hellraiser in my head the whole time!

Tear your intrigue apart

I remember reading the novella after seeing the film and wishing I had done vice versa. Revisiting the story through the authors narration was utterly spell binding and creepy personified. I can't wait to see what follow up The Toll unleashes. I can only anticipate the have such sights to show leading up to The Sxarlet Gospels or perhaps such sounds to behold.
