About this listen

Although he was once the promising young CEO of a successful corporation, Lucas abandoned everything he knew and retreated from both the real world and his demanding life following a horrific accident. In order to cope with tragic loss, he began spending his time in virtual reality, lazing about in the sun, and living a carefree life.

When he learns that his escapist paradise is being threatened and is about to disappear, however, Lucas is once again forced to take action and do what he does best: take charge. With newfound purpose, Lucas desperately begins making plans that will not only save the world that he has come to love but also propel him back into the spotlight once again - only this time as the villain.

In this GameLit LitRPG adventure, Lucas overthrows local lords, assumes command of the evil Imperium’s forces, and begins designing a dungeon that no player would ever want to miss out on. As he struggles to evolve his monsters and create an entourage of minions in order to become the greatest villain ever, however, Lucas realizes that things aren’t going to be as easy as they initially seemed.

Dave Willmarth, writer of the Greystone Chronicles: "A great start to a new series from a master storyteller! The MC being more of an anti-hero is a new twist for Charles, and I’m really enjoying it!"

This book is brought to you from the author of the Litrpg series War Aeternus, The Bathrobe Knight and Merchant of Tiqpa.

good story with little issues

Loved the story that was presented and i loved the performances but the biggest issue i had was with the mixing of the special effects. The two major instances i can think of a this point are when the mc speaks with the giant spider (i could barely understand what it said due to the noises it made) and the second one was when a pc spoke behind a door (the sound was so muffled that i couldn't hear what was said without earphones) otherwise this is a great read and i'm interested to see what the second book has to offer.

Enjoyable

Who hasn't always wanted to play the villian? Charles Dean holds true to how all evil Gillian's should run things, while taking us on a few smaller side quests. The characters are enjoyable and funny. I'm excited to start the second book, hoping for some new excitement!

Overall great

I'm not super good at reviews so the best way to say it is like an rpg made into a book.

enjoyable

Funny story at times with someone just having fun saving his or his wife's favorite game. The characters are well done and pretty quirky, the princess is hilarious when she goes off on a tangent. Great pacing and decent combat scenes. The magic is simple but fun and the world is getting fleshed out at a great pace. My only complaint would be with the main characters backstory, that causes him to reminisce fairly often and each time theres this sad song like violins playing in the background. I realise these moments are meant to be sad but the music reminds me too much of the parody where ppl play the tiny violin to make fun of whiners and it ruins the reflection. Buddies grief is understandable it's more a combination of the effects and the timing that bugs me. He usually falls into these moments after a success or a moment of joy which then transitions into a sappy background track and buddies melancholy grieving. Since we dont know this character or his wife very much its hard to care for a fictional characters grief when u were trying to enjoy a well written fight and the post battle banter. Great book worth a look for sure.

excellent overall

My only issue was the lack of profanity. Either needs a more creative and world appropriate swearing or just swear, don't dance around it.

Great.

Wow. Just wow. It was great. I loved everything. I loved the characters the idea of the story and I even cried because of this piece and I felt a weight was lifted off my chest for the first time in months.

Instantly Hooked

This was a great listen. Jell Hayes was great. He was not some monotone orator. The characters were well written and I was instantly curious about where the story was going. I was disappointed that a few questions were brought up about Bonnie that weren’t answered but maybe they will be in the next book. Guess I will have to go find out now
