About this listen
In the South, family is always more complicated than it seems.
After her last remaining family member dies, Sara Jenkins goes home to The Hideaway, her grandmother Mags’s ramshackle B&B in Sweet Bay. She intends to quickly tie up loose ends then return to her busy life and thriving antique shop in New Orleans. Instead, she learns Mags has willed The Hideaway to her and charged her with renovating it — no small task considering her grandmother’s best friends, a motley crew of senior citizens, still live there.
Rather than hurrying back to New Orleans, Sara stays in Sweet Bay and begins the biggest house-rehabbing project of her career. Amid drywall dust, old memories, and a charming contractor, she discovers that slipping back into life at The Hideaway is easier than she expected.
Then she discovers a box Mags left in the attic with clues to a life Sara never imagined for her grandmother. With help from Mags’s friends, Sara begins to piece together the mysterious life of bravery, passion, and choices that changed her grandmother’s destiny in both marvelous and devastating ways.
When an opportunistic land developer threatens to seize The Hideaway, Sara is forced to make a choice — stay in Sweet Bay and fight for the house and the people she’s grown to love or leave again and return to her successful but solitary life in New Orleans.

Enjoyable
I found this book very slow to start. It took me about 12 chapters to get hooked. But after that I found it entertaining and a good read. The narration was very well done and I found it easy to distinguish each character . I would recommend it as a light pleasant story about family love.

Quick Read
I enjoyed the story and the narrator was good. Not too complicated, a book about love and life.

lovely story of kindness and authenticity
this story made me feel wistful and really left me rooting for the characters. I fell in love with each person, all for different reasons. I could feel the emotion of the characters and share their frustrations. wonderfully written and shared

Snoozer
I have 1 hour left and nothing has happened. When I listen my mind wanders, but it doesn't matter because it is seriously the same thing over and over.
Also, I think the wrong narrator was chosen for the story. It reeeeally bothers me when female characters are made to sound stupid and helpless... these women are apparently strong willed, but sound like they couldn't possibly figure a single thing out on their own due to the whine factor.
The male characters sound awkward...
I'm just annoyed, and only finishing it because I hate wasting credits.
