Publisher's Summary
"To be opened in the event of my death." With one swift, vicious movement, she sliced the envelope open, and pulled out a handwritten letter. "Love you and the girls...so sorry to leave you with this...cannot bear...."
The Husband's Secret is a funny, heartbreaking novel of marriage, grief, love, and secrets. When her husband announces he's in love with her best friend, painfully shy Tess picks up her young son and returns to her mother's house. There she begins an unexpected affair with an old flame.
Rachel is a woman in her 60s consumed by grief and anger at the loss of her daughter 20 years earlier. When her son announces he is taking her beloved grandson overseas, Rachel begins a descent into deeper bitterness and pain.
Cecilia is the quintessential "I don't know how she does it" woman. A devoted mother to three daughters, she runs her household like clockwork, is President of the P&C, owns an extremely successful Tupperware business and is happy in her 15-year marriage. Until she discovers a letter in their attic labeled: "To my wife Cecilia, to be opened in the event of my death".
Her husband's secret is a bombshell beyond all imagining with repercussions across the lives of all three women.

Last night, we celebrated our anniversary. Over candlelight, we talked about the children, our work, and I was so happy, and felt so loved. But the next morning, when I check my phone, there is a message. From a friend. And a string of photos appear of my husband, Will, with another woman: walking along the street holding hands. Going into fancy hotels. Standing at a window, his arms around her, her head on his shoulder…

Enjoyable read
Maybe it's that I am at a similar stage and age as her characters, but I finish her books feeling that I have commiserated with a friend and learned something in hearing the internal lives of the characters. Would give 3 1/2 to story if I could, overall 4 stars. Love Moriarty's stories, Lee is exceptional.

superb
Such a simple yet so real story, beautifully read. As a "Tess" (albeit one whose husband never came crawling back after the sordid affair with the best friend - the soul mates who were always "meant to be" - lasted less than a year!) I laughed and cried in equal measure. I shouted out loud and punched the air, I swore and I sobbed. Fabulously true characters whom I adored and hated and knew.

Great book!!!
I was introduced to this author through the TV production of Big Little Lies. I have since started to read/listen to all of this author's books. This novel did not disappoint. I love Caroline Lee's narration. The author has a great gift in writing about children and people. I love the "head" talk. I love the flawed characters and the story line. She keeps you guessing which I like. Definitely will continue to follow this author.

This book has introduced another amazing artist to my reading repertoire.
Love the narration, thank you 100% important to be audible reading pleasure. The who “dun-nit” feel created a lot of suspense and the relationships of all these characters was very well written, plausible and exciting. Could not turn it off.

It didn’t dazzle me, maybe the wrong genre
I was into the book, wanting to know what happened but the ending was a little blah in my humble opinion. Not that it needed a happy ending or anything but just fell flat of expectation.
