Publisher's Summary

Written with the verve of such works as The Big Short, The History of the Future, and The Spider Network, here is the fascinating, true story of the rise of Ethereum, the second-biggest digital asset in the world, the growth of cryptocurrency, and the future of the internet as we know it.

Everyone has heard of Bitcoin, but few know about the second largest cryptocurrency, Ethereum, which has been heralded as the "next internet".

The story of Ethereum begins with Vitalik Buterin, a supremely gifted 19-year-old autodidact who saw the promise of blockchain when the technology was in its earliest stages. He convinced a crack group of coders to join him in his quest to make a super-charged, global computer.

The Infinite Machine introduces Vitalik’s ingenious idea and unfolds Ethereum’s chaotic beginnings. It then explores the brilliant innovation and reckless greed the platform - an infinitely adaptable foundation for experimentation and new applications - has unleashed and the consequences that resulted as the frenzy surrounding it grew: increased regulatory scrutiny, incipient Wall Street interest, and the founding team’s effort to get the Ethereum platform to scale so it can eventually be accessible to the masses.

Financial journalist and cryptocurrency expert Camila Russo details the wild and often hapless adventures of a team of hippy-anarchists, reluctantly led by an ambivalent visionary, and lays out how this new foundation for the internet will spur both transformation and fraud - turning some into millionaires and others into felons - and revolutionize our ideas about money.

Great insight into the personalities behind crypto

Great insight into the history of ETH development and the many other projects that core team members have started. Critical for investors to know some of details about the founders of today's projects like Ada, Dot etc as it's very important to a project's success to have sound, capable leaders.

Fantastic. Very well put together.

I had no idea that Etherium had such a wild ride. I was actually on the edge of my seat during a portion of the book which is something I'm not used to with books related to business and finance. I highly recommend this book to any crypto enthusiest or crypto newbie.

Essential reading for those interested in crypto

Excellent story, excellent narration. As of May 2021, this is highly relevant and one of the most digestible books on Ethereum out there. Highly recommended.

Great info, poor narration

The subject was very interesting, and the author does a great job of tying it all together, but the narration sounds like a boring version of Siri

Very Interesting.

Great story about the early days of Ethereum. I love that it talks about all the early founders and where they are now.

Too much boring detail

I’m not at all interested in the details of crypto. I am interested in compelling stories though. This book was heavy on the former and light on the latter.
