About this listen
The Insanity of God is the personal and lifelong journey of an ordinary couple from rural Kentucky who thought they were going on just your ordinary missionary pilgrimage but discovered it would be anything but. After spending over six hard years doing relief work in Somalia and experiencing life where it looked like God had turned away completely and he was clueless about the tragedies of life, the couple had a crisis of faith and left Africa asking God, "Does the Gospel work anywhere when it is really a hard place?" It sure didn't work in Somalia.
Nik recalls, "God had always been so real to me, to Ruth, and to our boys. But was he enough for the utter weariness of soul I experienced at that time, in that place, under those circumstances?" It is a question that many have asked and one that, if answered, can lead us to a whole new world of faith. How does faith survive, let alone flourish, in a place like the Middle East? How can Ggod truly overcome such evil? How do you maintain hope when all is darkness around you? How can we say "greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world" when it may not be visibly true in that place at that time? How does anyone live an abundant, victorious Christian life in our world's toughest places? Can Christianity even work outside of Western, dressed-up, ordered nations? If so, how?
The Insanity of God tells a story - a remarkable and unique story to be sure, yet at heart a very human story - of the Ripkens' own spiritual and emotional odyssey. The gripping narrative account of a personal pilgrimage into some of the toughest places on Earth, combined with sobering and insightful stories of the remarkable people of faith Nik and Ruth encountered on their journeys, will serve as a powerful course of revelation, growth, and challenge for anyone who wants to know whether God truly is enough.

All Christian disciples have one thing in common: As they carry the Gospel across the ocean and across the street, persecution will become the norm for those who choose to follow Jesus. How believers respond in the face of persecution reveals everything about their level of faith and obedience. The Insanity of Obedience is a bold challenge to global discipleship. Nik Ripken exposes the danger of safe Christianity and calls listeners to something greater.

Story
As Adolf Hitler and the Nazis seduced a nation, bullied a continent, and attempted to exterminate the Jews of Europe, a small number of dissidents and saboteurs worked to dismantle the Third Reich from the inside. One of these was Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a pastor and author. In this New York Times bestselling biography, Eric Metaxas takes both strands of Bonhoeffer's life—the theologian and the spy—and draws them together to tell a searing story of incredible moral courage in the face of monstrous evil.

Story
A lifelong pursuit of knowing God should embody the Christian's existence. According to eminent theologian J.I. Packer, however, Christians have become enchanted by modern skepticism and have joined the "gigantic conspiracy of misdirection" by failing to put first things first. Knowing God aims to redirect our attention to the simple, deep truth that to know God is to love His Word.

reminder of who God is and a great encouragement of persecuted believers
Beautiful and moving testimonies that depict living a life for God in the harshest of circumstances and God proving who He is. Very encouraging, especially as a Christian in western culture , where we are surrounded by comfort and seemingly a sleeping church.
it's amazing to see God's word coming alive in countries where people are desperate for Him. the LORD proves Himself again and again as people look to Him.
The author has a slow start to the book, but as he continues I was able to grasp his story line and become more involved. As the author had been to Somaliland , he was sharing his discouragements from working there amongst all the corruption. Then he compares his experience with the experiences of others who turned to Jesus in corrupt and harsh places. . How they thrived and the church was and is doing the great commission.
the persecuted church cannot help but preach the good news of Jesus, just as in the book of Acts. How miracles were happening and how their walk with God was tangible for others to witness. Living in a corrupt place, these Christians considered it a cross they're willing to bear for Jesus's names sake, because Jesus is worth it.
He encourages Western believers to not give up in freedom what persecuted believers are willing to die for. This statement is moving to me and a good challenge for us western believers.
The author gives good encouragement to western believers, as he is one himself.
To God be the glory!
