About this listen

It is 1780, and 17-year-old Alan Lewrie is a brash, rebellious young libertine. So much so that his callous father believes a bit of naval discipline will turn the boy around. Fresh aboard the tall-masted Ariadne, Midshipman Lewrie heads for the war-torn Americas, finding - rather unexpectedly - that he is a born sailor, equally at home with the randy pleasures of the port and the raging battles on the high seas. But in a hail of cannonballs comes a bawdy surprise.

Loving this series!

This is my second series about life aboard a British naval vessel. My first was the Patrick O'Brian series about Captain Aubrey. That series was 22 volumes long. Don't judge an individual book too harshly as some books provide more necessary information for upcoming books and/or provide additional details about sailing or past books. Sometimes I think after reading a volume I have all the knowledge that I need to sail a ship. With the sailing knowledge, you'll also gain a familiarity with the language of the time. I must tell you that after completing the Patrick O'brian series, I was overjoyed in that I read (I actually read the series) a fantastic series. I am listening to the Dewey lambdin series and am enjoying it sincerely. At the time of writing this review, I am on book 5 but have listened to each book twice. Cheers

Excellent Tale

I throughly enjoyed this 1st book in Lewry Naval series. Very entertaining, the hero, naval action and the wenching.
I highly recommend this book to Hornblower fans.
