About this listen
Russian counterintelligence chief Colonel Dominika Egorova has been a recruited asset of the CIA, stealing Kremlin secrets for her CIA handler, Nate Nash, for over seven years. In the dazzling finale to the Red Sparrow Trilogy - which will be published right before the release of Red Sparrow, a major motion picture starring Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton - their forbidden and tumultuous love affair continues, mortally dangerous for them both but irresistible.
In Washington, a newly installed US administration is selecting its cabinet members. Dominika hears a whisper of a closely held Kremlin operation to place a mole inside a high intelligence position. But it's worse than that: One of the three candidates under consideration has been a paid Russian spy for a decade, selling precious US secrets. If the Kremlin's candidate for the position is confirmed, the Russians will have access to all the names of assets spying for CIA in Moscow, including Dominika's. But which of the three individuals is the mole?
Dominika's report triggers a desperate mole hunt before she's exposed and arrested. Resisting all suggestions to defect and save herself, Dominika recklessly immerses herself in the palace intrigues of the Kremlin, searching for the mole's name, and stealing as many of President Putin's secrets for her CIA handlers before her time runs out - even as Putin's dangerous interest in her grows. The treasure trove of her intelligence reporting sends Nate Nash and colleagues on desperate missions to Sevastopol, Istanbul, Khartoum, and Hong Kong.
With a plot ripped from tomorrow's headlines, The Kremlin's Candidate is a riveting story if you've never listened to Jason Matthews and a thrilling conclusion to the trilogy begun with Red Sparrow and Palace of Treason, which The New York Times Book Review called "a primer in 21st-century spying...terrifically good".

Add cilantro, crushed dried chillies and peppers
Excellent espionage trilogy. Not as cerebral as Le Carre but the tradecraft and technical snippets of the spy world are fascinating and presumably well informed as the author was CIA. Also the geopolitical backgrounders are interesting and very prescient based on what has subsequently happened with Ukraine and China. The characters are well drawn and the narrator does a wonderful job in differentiating them all. As you will find out some events appear rather far-fetched but maybe the Robert Hanssen and Kim Philby affairs were initially felt so at the time. The more realistic aspects might be when complex operations go horribly wrong in hostile countries. Themes of loyalty, serving ones country and sacrifice are explored extensively.
Just loved the chapter-ending recipes and the constant presence of food in the story. Mr Matthews must have been quite a gourmet. I wish you could get all the recipes as a cook book (some are available on Pinterest, or just buy the hard copies of the novels in a second hand book store). It has to be said though that the food presented is generally not the most healthy, US Navy beef snack for example.

Loved ALL Three
I enjoyed this series very much and highly recommend it to other listener with the caveat that you must read all three. The Characters were more then interesting and they seemed to possess the right level of strengths and weaknesses to make it believe-able. It has peaked my interest in Russia and what goes on "behind the curtain". i was instructed to include the hashtag #Audible1 in the body of my review, if i know what to do with it i may have been more creative. Enjoy.

Very engaging yet comical.
Very engaging yet comical to a Russian language native speaker and someone who intimately familiar with the reality of life in Russia. Genuine fear of that trash Putin and his pack of hyenas really shows. Looking from prospective of today's knowledge (the third year of war in Ukraine) this fear looks so unjustified and ridiculous.
The book through entertaining read helped me better understand the reason why American administration is so indecisive in helping Ukraine fight for their freedom and for democratic values of a free world against terrorist regime and dictatorships like Russia, North Korea, Iran, etc.

Great story. I’d give it an all points 5 star if the end wasn’t so depressing. Ah right, it’s only a story.
