Publisher's Summary

The fourth installment in the beloved and New York Times bestselling series from Richard Osman, also author of We Solve Murders

“The best Murder Club book yet. . . A poignant complement to both the fair-play mystery plot and the characters’ lively humor.”

—The New York Times Book Review

It's rarely a quiet day for the Thursday Murder Club.

Shocking news reaches them—an old friend has been killed, and a dangerous package he was protecting has gone missing.

The gang's search leads them into the antiques business, where the tricks of the trade are as old as the objects themselves. As they encounter drug dealers, art forgers, and online fraudsters—as well as heartache close to home—Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim have no idea whom to trust.

With the body count rising, the clock ticking down, and trouble firmly on their tail, has their luck finally run out?

And who will be the last devil to die?

What the critics say

“Skulduggery and laughs abound as our favorite gaggle of amateur-detective retirees tackle drug runners, dodgy antique dealers, art forgers and Battenberg cake recipes.”
—People

“The best Murder Club book yet. . . A poignant complement to both the fair-play mystery plot and the characters’ lively humor.”—New York Times Book Review

“So what is it about the Thursday Murder Club books that make them so broadly appealing? The simple answer is that they are really good. The writing is pithy and fresh, so much so that I kept writing down lines from The Last Devil To Die. . . But there’s more than just quotable sentences at work here. Osman’s plots play fair with the reader, carefully placing 'red herrings' to fool the reader into picking the wrong possible murder suspect—a gambit that has improved with each successive book. The endings feel both inevitable and earned: the exact combination one wants in a good mystery. . . Osman’s greatest strength is fusing the puzzle-mastery of Christie and her Golden Age peers with emotional earnestness and wry humor.” —Esquire

I Miss Joyce!

The members of the Thursday murder club are part of my life. They are so real and some are so unique and unusual that when I’m finished each book, I truly miss them. The story line is very clever. Thank you Richard for creating them. And thank you Ms Shaw for bringing them to life.

My favourite Murder Club yet!

Loved the addition of a Canadian character! The line “God cries every time someone lies to a Canadian.” is one I will be quoting for years to come. And Stephen’s storyline was the most poignant piece of writing I’ve come across in years. It was like holding my own fathers hand again.

Gut Wrenching in Spots

If you have a loved one with Dementia, this is a gut-wrenching story. It follows well from the previous 3 books, and I enjoyed the whole storyline in general, but the Stephen story line (Elizabeth's husband with dementia) hit a little too close to home for me. I think it is well written and thoughtfully done, but it upset me none the less. If you don't know much about dementia, I view this as a good dramatization of a possible story line.

I do (however) recommend the book. The presentation of the audiobook is excellent, and the production is good as well. The book itself is great, if you enjoyed the previous 3 books (I would recommend reading them before this), you will love this one as well.

I hope there is another one coming, but, maybe this storyline has run its course, we shall see. Good job Mr. Osman and Ms. Shaw!

Bring back Lesley Manville 🙏

I never write reviews. I absolutely LOVED Lesley Manville’s reading of The Thursday Murder Club. She brought the characters to life brilliantly. This narrator uses the same hoarse whisper for every character. Ruins what is a well-written story. 😭

Excellent narration and moving story

Wonderful characters, great writing and a very poignant story line all wrapped up in a crime/mystery novel. Love the narration and the well drawn characters. The introduction of new interesting people was wonderful. Hope some
of them show up in future books…..especially the Canadian!

Perfect

Entertaining, thoughtful crime mystery that will make you smile, laugh, and cry - the characters are real, relatable, ageless even though the main 4 are 80ish, and so interesting! . Been a fan since the first book of the series and will be waiting patiently for book 5. The narration is also excellent!

The members of the Thursday Murder Club do not disappoint!

Another engaging and compassionate story with bittersweet tones. I found Fiona easier to hear than book three, but still struggled a bit when Joyce was writing in her diary. And as a Canadian I have to say that no one has an accent like Garth’s here, but like others I will miss the gang until their next adventure.
