About this listen
Ara...I made a mistake, we all did...go back to the beginning...it’s not too late.
As the only female to survive the devastating virus, Ara hasn’t seen another human in months - not since her father disappeared. The plague has swept away humanity, and Ara’s world is desolate, haunted by the ghosts of her former life. Her mother. Her sister.
Kaden and his crew live by a code: stay alert, stay alive. When they catch Ara stealing from them, they are furious - and confused. She is the first girl they have seen in three years. And while Kaden knows taking her captive is wrong, he tells himself he’s doing it to protect her.
But with Ara determined to follow through on her father’s mission - go back to the beginning. End the plague - Kaden becomes mesmerized by Ara’s will and beauty. He knows he will do anything to help her, even if it tears their worlds apart.

Dystopian
First of all, I love dystopian books. This one was filled with tons of action and suspense. There is some sort of plague that killed out all the women (except for Ara) and turns animals rabid and huge.
Ara is captured by a group of men while out searching for her father, here we meet Kayden and Sam who bring her back to their clan. You can only imagine what a clan of men might want with the sole surviving woman 🥴.
I do wish I knew more about the virus and why it killed mainly woman but you can't have it all I guess! This didn't take away from the story at least.

great
I love that this is not a zombie story!! very well written. it was annoying at times when she kept repeating, "Go back to the beginning. "... as if we didn't just hear it 30 times. I was surprised that I enjoyed this audible; There were a few times I was lost and confused about what was happening in the story, but it started to make sense after a few minutes. it was like the senerio changed fast. worth the listen to, especially while it's included in membership!

It kept me engaged
I remained engaged and frustrated throughout most of this book. The characters seem to not think anything through, especially Ara. I also found the repetitive speech incredibly annoying, I think you could make a drinking game out of how many times she says ‘go back to the beginning’ and likely be hungover for days. With all of that said, I couldn’t stop listening. As for the performance , I wish during Ara’s chapters they would keep Kaden’s voice actor the same, it was off putting how his voice kept changing. I also found all the male characters sounded the same, a little variation in pitch, tone, something, would have been nice.

Reads like a first novel, but with promise
I particularly disliked the female narrator. Everything she said sounded like overblown teen romance. The writing was mediocre and the plot predictable. Even the twists were predictable. The world-building is remarkably good, however. I think there’s a lot of potential here, but would encourage the writer to add more character to the characters. Even by the end they remained pretty flat. Worth a listen, but not a credit.
