The highly-anticipated finale to the New York Times bestselling 5th Wave series.

The enemy is Other. The enemy is us. They’re down here, they’re up there, they’re nowhere. They want the Earth, they want us to have it. They came to wipe us out, they came to save us.

But beneath these riddles lies one truth: Cassie has been betrayed. So has Ringer. Zombie. Nugget. And all 7.5 billion people who used to live on our planet. Betrayed first by the Others, and now by ourselves.

In these last days, Earth’s remaining survivors will need to decide what’s more important: saving themselves . . . or saving what makes us human.

Great final book

I don’t know what is worse, imagining this story is possible or knowing a human mind imagined it.

It is a well written story, the kind that kept me up nights reading. I’m exhausted now four days and nights of twists and turns. Four days & nights believing in a world. Fascinated. Heartbroken that a human mind could conceive of the cruelties; of the knowledge that, in many ways, this was a story filled with a human history of cruelties of human against human. Not a book to read while Putin attacks the Ukraine. Another beginning of another war where mindgames and murder play out.

It was worth every moment, every gasp and tear, laugh and curse word. Like the book written by another author, “The Road” and seeing a world that is possible. Too possible. Hope and resignation about how easily humans can be brainwashed by propaganda and fear. How easily we can learn to hate and fear “the others”.

It is a fantastic story, creative and beautiful , ugly and heartbreaking, but filled with hope. Hope dashed, unraveled and then rewoven.

Addictive and terrifying read

It wasn't great, but it was a decent conclusion to a story that needed one. The first 1/3 is a ramble of slightly enjoying chatter.
