About this listen

Alexander McCall Smith’s No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series has become a worldwide phenomenon thanks to the appeal of endearing protagonist Precious Ramotswe and the author’s charmingly quirky prose. In this 13th installment, Mma Ramotswe’s attention is focused on a pesky disciplinary problem at her adopted daughter’s school - while Grace Makutsi adjusts to wedded bliss and the famed Clovis Andersen arrives in Botswana looking for more than bush tea.

Polydipsia?

The characters in this novel apparently drink upwards of 10 cups of tea per day. However the author never mentions facilities such as toilets. That mentioned, the issue of the health effects of drinking that much fluid need to be considered. People with diabetes often drink excessive amounts of fluid as do people with other conditions. Therefore the author needs to be cautious about his considering that tea drinking in these amounts is benign or even good for the health. Such is not the case. Therefore this novel would be the place to mention that the ladies limit the amount of tea they drink in a day. I continue to enjoy these lovely stories and my above mentioned comments are not meant as criticism. .
