About this listen

The ultimate introduction to every character, creature and location you will encounter in this epic adventure from the official Lord of the Rings saga.

Read by star of the film, Gaia Wise.

Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg—a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.

With a cast of exciting and original characters, and a mix of locations both familiar and new, this dramatic new standalone story weaves another thread in the grand tapestry of Middle-earth. Read by the star of the film herself, The War of the Rohirrim Official Companion is the ultimate introduction to every character, creature and location you will encounter in this epic adventure from the official Lord of the Rings saga.

A Great Primer for the Upcoming Animated Film

This is a short and sweet audiobook that's wonderfully read by Gaia Wise who voices Hera, the protagonist in The War of the Rohirrim movie. It's pretty straightforward, going character by character, location by location, giving some backstory and describing the world of--as of writing this--the upcoming film. I had to deduct a star from my rating due to the fact that this is first and foremost a visual companion, so while it's a great listen, it would have benefited greatly from including a PDF of the actual book, the same way Audible has done for many audiobook releases.

Still, for $6.60, it's entirely worth it, even if you don't have illustrations of the characters or maps of the locations like Rohan and Hornburg. At $30 for the print version and $22 on Kindle, the audiobook is the most affordable option. I'm looking forward to putting faces and locales to the names found in this audiobook this Saturday when I catch the movie at the theatre on opening weekend. Hopefully, it will live up to my expectations and the film will be one that I'll want to revisit on Blu-ray, in which case this audiobook will become an even better companion. Recommended for fans of LOTR in general and of The War of the Rohirrim film, of course.
