About this listen
An enchanting and captivating novel about how our untold stories haunt us - and the stories we tell ourselves in order to survive.
After her family suffers a tragedy, nine-year-old Alice Hart is forced to leave her idyllic seaside home. She is taken in by her grandmother, June, a flower farmer who raises Alice on the language of Australian native flowers, a way to say the things that are too hard to speak.
Under the watchful eye of June and the women who run the farm, Alice settles, but grows up increasingly frustrated by how little she knows of her family’s story. In her early 20s, Alice’s life is thrown into upheaval again when she suffers devastating betrayal and loss. Desperate to outrun grief, Alice flees to the dramatically beautiful central Australian desert. In this otherworldly landscape Alice thinks she has found solace, until she meets a charismatic and ultimately dangerous man.
Spanning two decades, set between sugar cane fields by the sea, a native Australian flower farm, and a celestial crater in the central desert, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart follows Alice’s unforgettable journey as she learns that the most powerful story she will ever possess is her own.

Created beautiful imagery with such a sad tale
I wanted for once to read the book before watching the "movie" and the Amazon series looked wonderful so I held off watching in order to listen to this book. Without giving away the story to start it was hard to follow and took a bit to get into the characters. Maybe it's a me issue as it's written in third person...however as the story progressed I was able to fully grasp each character and their story and fell in love.
Moments I was so angry and frustrated, but the story was so in a way that lessons are to be learned individually and one cannot just assume everyone will go the same path.
I'm very excited to watch the series now!!! I hope it does it justice...all my friends say it's fantastic!!

Really loved it!
At the beginning of each chapter, it tells the history and language of flowers that intermingles with the character's life story... This book inspired me to draw flowers again... this story is not really about flowers...it is about tragic and triumph...

Incredible read, totally pulled in to the story
One of the best books I have read in a long time. Rich descriptions, especially of native Australian flowers. I often felt like I could smell the sea. Lots of action with different storylines that tie in nicely, felt very cohesive. Beautifully read, a joy to listen to.

Loved the Characters
I loved the characters and the way the story incorporated the many flowers into it. It’s surprising how history repeats its self and most of the women ended up being attracted to the same kind of men! Abusers. This is sad.

The main character is so unbelievable and very annoying.
Very long, protracted book that is extremely predictable, with no originality in plot or character. The dogs were the best part. I couldn’t finish. If you like young adult romantic fiction, you might enjoy this. Otherwise, give it a pass. I gained no knowledge and no enjoyment from this one. Reader was good until she tried to do accents. Her indigenous accent reminds me of a really bad rendition of teeters accent on Yellowstone. And her Spanish accent isn’t much better.
