About this listen

An instant New York Times bestseller!

The second gripping novel in the New York Times bestselling Thursday Murder Club series, soon to be a major motion picture from Steven Spielberg at Amblin Entertainment

“It’s taken a mere two books for Richard Osman to vault into the upper leagues of crime writers. . . The Man Who Died Twice. . . dives right into joyous fun."
—The New York Times Book Review

The Bullet That Missed, the third installment in the Thursday Murder Club series, is forthcoming!

Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim—the Thursday Murder Club—are still riding high off their recent real-life murder case and are looking forward to a bit of peace and quiet at Cooper’s Chase, their posh retirement village.

But they are out of luck.

An unexpected visitor—an old pal of Elizabeth’s (or perhaps more than just a pal?)—arrives, desperate for her help. He has been accused of stealing diamonds worth millions from the wrong men and he’s seriously on the lam.

Then, as night follows day, the first body is found. But not the last. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim are up against a ruthless murderer who wouldn’t bat an eyelid at knocking off four septuagenarians. Can our four friends catch the killer before the killer catches them? And if they find the diamonds, too? Well, wouldn’t that be a bonus? You should never put anything beyond the Thursday Murder Club.

Richard Osman is back with everyone’s favorite mystery-solving quartet, and the second installment of the Thursday Murder Club series is just as clever and warm as the first—an unputdownable, laugh-out-loud pleasure of a read.

“It’s taken a mere two books for Richard Osman to vault into the upper leagues of crime writers… The Man Who Died Twice. . . dives right into joyous fun. Osman’s writing reminds me of Anthony Berkeley’s in its mixing of sparkling humor and resonant emotion. . . No wonder readers, myself included, have surrendered to [the Thursday Murder Club members’] abundant charms.” —The New York Times Book Review

“Think of the Thursday Murder Club itself as a senior version of 'The A-Team'. . . Funny, moving and suspenseful. . . So delicious, even adorable . . A wildly entertaining book.” —The Washington Post

Thursday Murder Club Forever!

After only two books in this series I already feel like Joyce, Ibrahim, Ron, Elizabeth, Chris, Donna and Bogdan are dear old friends of mine. I absolutely love the adventures they drag me into. How can such relatable, adorable and funny people be so completely epic at handling these outlandish and often unsettling circumstances? The realness of all the characters combined with the complexity of the story makes it a read I will enjoy again and again.

Just as good as the first

I loved the Thursday Murder Club, and the second novel did not disappoint. The narrator is amazing, and really brings the story to life

Must read for anyone over 60

I am hooked! I listened to both books about the Thursday Murder club. The author highlights a group of 70 year olds in a retirement village. Brilliant plot and dialogues. Full of fun and philosophy about getting old. The narrator is extremely good as well.

Even better than the first TMC

It was such a treat to meet Elizabeth, Ibrahim, Ron, and especially Joyce again in this clever, nuanced, gripping story. The subtle humour, the depth of understanding of how older people function - without a hint of ageism - and the unexpected quirks of the characters make it addictive. Lesley Manville is a brilliant narrator, like a one-woman band. Keep turning them out, Richard! Can’t wait for the next one.

Delightful

Narration is spot on.
The story is fun, exciting, and then every now and then hilarious as the characters’ quirky personalities come though.

An absolute delight

Lesley Manville's brilliant narration brings this gem of a book to life. I was thrilled to be back with the Thursday Murder Club for another adventure. The mystery is interesting and the book is very funny while still being touching and believable.

Moving and poignantly funny

If you’re in a time of limbo in your life, I cannot recommend these books enough. I’m 27, living through a personal development era, and this book and it’s flawed but wonderful characters, really helps the reader understand the human nature of loss, and the little joys of life. Got all teary at the end. 5 stars.

Love this Series

I love this series. The characters are interesting and distinct. Joyce is a wonderful narrator. I’m constantly surprised by her.

The murders are rarely distressing, but sometimes good people die, and it tugs at your heart.

The mysteries are well thought out with many twists and turns, and they always keep me guessing.

Plus, I love the fact that most of the characters are senior citizens that are still living full lives., and often outsmart the younger ones.

We live in a time when “isms” of all sorts are considered inappropriate. As a senior citizen, I can assure the world that ageism is still a problem..
