Publisher's Summary

The Devil comes to Moscow, but he isn't all bad; Pontius Pilate sentences a charismatic leader to his death, but yearns for redemption; and a writer tries to destroy his greatest tale, but discovers that manuscripts don't burn. Multi-layered and entrancing, blending sharp satire with glorious fantasy, The Master and Margarita is ceaselessly inventive and profoundly moving. In its imaginative freedom and raising of eternal human concerns, it is one of the world's great novels.

Great Book good narration

Book is a classic, good narration my only issue is i found the British accent of the narrator a little out of place for this Russian classic

Recommended

This book was recommended by a very intelligent person. They say don’t judge a book by its cover, but sometimes the cover looks nice and the book is good too.

Best book on tape

The story, the narrator (amazing) and the entire production are as good as it gets. If you’re reading comments to come to a decision believe me it is worth it. It’s an absolute classic that I never expected.

there is something here but I'm not sure what

this seems like the type of book that will take a second or even third listen to understand fully. Theres clearly something beautiful and complex in this story, but it's hard to parse out on the first reading. my rating is based on my impressions on my first reading rather than whatever potential it may have.
at times it reads like a wild and fantastical children's adventure, at times a historical drama, or a heartbreaking romance novel, or a surreal narrative story. All of it is brought alive by an excellent voice actor who brings the characters alive in a mix of dramatic monologue, and cartoon character that fits the book perfectly. The reader definitly makes me think I will actually listen a second time and hopefully unlock those extra layers of understanding that are clearly below the surface, I might not otherwise have the interest in giving it a second go if Julian wasn't such an entertainer.
