Publisher's Summary

Mary Magdalene is one of the most influential symbols in the history of Christianity - yet, if you look in the Bible, you'll find only a handful of verses that speak of her. How did she become such a compelling saint in the face of such paltry evidence? In her effort to answer that question, Cynthia Bourgeault examines the Bible, church tradition, art, legend, and newly discovered texts to see what's there. She then applies her own reasoning and intuition, informed by the wisdom of the ages-old Christian contemplative tradition. What emerges is a radical view of Mary Magdalene as Jesus' most important disciple, the one he considered to understand his teaching best. That teaching was characterized by a nondualistic approach to the world and by a deep understanding of the value of the feminine. Cynthia shows how an understanding of Mary Magdalene can revitalize contemporary Christianity, how Christians and others can, through her, find their way to Jesus' original teachings and apply them to their modern lives.

Explore the Divine

An intellectual exploration of the importance of Mary Magdalene to the life & teachings of Jesus. The author sets out to provoke thought and deeper understanding of what the Divine is and how Mary Magdalene is an integral part of Its wholeness. This is a book I look forward to listening to again and again.

insightful.

I really enjoyed this book. If true her thesis, can explain much of what is behind the scenes driving Feminism forward in the hearts and minds of many who want healing, growth and appreciation between the sexes. I loved Cynthia's insights regarding the spiritual journey that marriage can (and should) be. A book (or 12) should be written about how to practice that type of spirituality.

Why is the real gospel not the focus? The free gift of eternal life with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit

This audio book’s Chapter 8 4:25 “are you the one who is to come?” Is not Matthew 3:11.
This a really bad book. Let scripture interpret scripture. I was going to try and make it to the end of this book but I can’t if it lies to prove it’s point. I hope that anyone who reads this examines themselves against the ten real commandments (no idols or man made images included) realizes their sin, asks for forgiveness, repents and grabs hold of Jesus free gift of righteousness that no Mary could ever earn. Luke 1:47. The virgin Mary needed a saviour too.
