Secrets. Lies. Murder. Let the festivities begin…
It’s the opening night of The Manor, the newest and hottest luxury resort, and no expense, small or large, has been spared. The infinity pool sparkles; the “Manor Mule” cocktail (grapefruit, ginger, vodka, and a dash of CBD oil) is being poured with a heavy hand. Everyone is wearing linen.
But under the burning midsummer sun, darkness stirs. Old friends and enemies circulate among the guests. Just outside the Manor’s immaculately kept grounds, an ancient forest bristles with secrets. And it’s not too long before the local police are called. Turns out the past has crashed the party, with deadly results.

During the languid days of the Christmas break, a group of 30-something friends from Oxford meets to welcome in the New Year together, a tradition they began as students 10 years ago. Not her best
I seem to be in the minority here but this one was just OK for me. The mystery wasn’t great and quite predictable if you pay attention. Performances were good. The paranormal aspects felt out of place and didn’t add much for me.

Not her best
This book was, unfortunately, just an okay read for me. The premise had promise, but the execution fell a bit flat. The story felt drawn out, with slow pacing that struggled to build real momentum. Despite some intriguing elements, the plot was surprisingly predictable—I found myself correctly guessing twists well in advance.
It didn’t help that the narrative dragged so much that I was tempted to speed through it just to reach the end. I often found myself wanting to listen at 2X speed, just to push through the parts that felt repetitive and unnecessarily long.
Overall, while the book had moments of interest, it didn’t keep me fully engaged. It’s not one I’d likely recommend unless you’re a die-hard Lucy Foley fan or don’t mind a slower, more predictable ride.
