Award-winning author Rick Yancey has captivated young adult readers with his popular Alfred Kropp novels, the first of which was named a Best Book for Children by Publishers Weekly and was a finalist for the Carnegie Medal. Now Yancey begins a gripping new series with The Monstrumologist.

Dr. Warthrop is a scientist who tracks and studies real-life monsters. Assisted by his 12-year-old apprentice, Will Henry, Dr. Warthrop discovers a pod of Anthropophagi and launches a hunt to destroy the foul beasts.

An excellent example of suspense and horror done right. Definitely worth a listen!
I can't wait to listen to the next books in the series.

While the overall premise and storyline were good, the execution was lacking. The trite 'emotionally unavailable mentor is mean to prepare student for monstrosities' relationship gets boring and a lack of any other meaningful relationships in the book made it painful at timess. There were a lot of descriptions of gore that seemed to try to replace actual horror. Worth a read if you love the genre.
