Publisher's Summary

From the author of the worldwide best seller The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, a new novel about learning how to listen and how to feel and about second chances and choosing to be brave despite the odds. Because in the end, music can save us all....

It's 1988. Frank owns a music shop. It is jam-packed with records of every speed, size and genre. Classical, jazz, punk - as long as it's vinyl, he sells it. Day after day Frank finds his customers the music they need. Then into his life walks Ilse Brauchmann.

Ilse asks Frank to teach her about music. His instinct is to turn and run. And yet he is drawn to this strangely still, mysterious woman, with her pea-green coat and her eyes as black as vinyl. But Ilse is not what she seems. And Frank has old wounds that threaten to reopen and a past he will never leave behind....

Gets into your head and heart

I’m not normally a romance fan but there is so much heart in this novel, in relation to romantic partners, friends and community. A very enjoyable, thoughtful and humorous listen

lovely love story

I had enjoyed the print book, but was thrilled to be able to indulge in the audio version with my husband. We enriched the experience by googling the mentioned songs and listening to them as we progressed through the story.
The reader was good...hit the right tone through the book.
We highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a love story. Have tissue ready for the last chapter.
We have enjoyed other of Rachel Joyce's book, too.

Great story about the power of love and music

I originally read the hard copy of this book when it first came out. I thought that this book would lend itself well to an audio book. Needless to say, I was not disappointed.

I loved the story! I am a self-confessed audiophile and I found that this story about the power of love and the love of music so compelling!

A Fantastic Story!

First and foremost, this is a love story, but not in any conventional sense. It is a wonderfully entertaining and tender homage to music, its power, and the bonds that grow among those who share it. Not only will the characters of Unity Street feel like friends, but the many wonderful musical references might even encourage you to revisit favorites or discoverer new sounds. A truly fantastic novel, especially for those who love music!
