About this listen

The stories were all wrong—Hook was never the villain.

For two centuries, all of the Darling women have disappeared on their 18th birthday. Sometimes they’re gone for only a day, some a week or a month. But they always return broken.

Now, on the afternoon of my 18th birthday, my mother is running around the house making sure all the windows are barred and the doors locked.

But it’s pointless.

Because when night falls, he comes for me. And this time, the Never King and the Lost Boys aren’t willing to let me go.

NOTE: The Never King is a reimagining of Peter and Wendy. Characters have been aged up for this darker, grittier version. If you like your enemies to lovers romance with hot, ruthless, morally gray love interests, you’ll enjoy The Never King. You can expect hate kissing, fighting, bickering, and "touch her and I’ll unalive you" vibes. Book one ends on a cliff.

Recommended listening!

This was a great story, I really enjoyed reading/listening to it. The story started quickly and immediately immersed me in the world. The voice actors did a fantastic job with their characters and added a nice touch to the story. It was a quick read and was mildly spicy. Looking forward to the next book.

A Dark and Enchanting Retelling of Peter Pan

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
📚E-BOOK📚 & 🎧AUDIO🎧

The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe is a deliciously dark retelling of Peter Pan that hooked me from the very start. Spoken in multiple POVs and narrated beautifully in dual narration by a talented cast (Stella Hunter, Shane East, Diontae Black, Curtis Michael Holland, and Roxy Isles), the audiobook added layers of depth and emotion to an already captivating story.

This was my first experience reading Nikki St. Crowe, and she didn't disappoint. The book had been on my list of dark romances to read for a while, and I’m glad I finally took the plunge. As is the norm with dark romance, I recommend reviewing the trigger warnings beforehand to ensure it’s the right fit for you. If you’re good with the content, you’re in for an enthralling ride.

The story is a dark, reverse-harem twist on the Peter Pan legend, filled with morally gray characters and an irresistible slow burn. Peter Pan is hot and cold, with a dangerous edge that will leave you guessing. The twin fae princes bring magic and mischief with their illusions, and then there’s Vane, The Dark One—a brooding, terrifying presence you can’t help but be drawn to. Why are we always falling for the dark, brooding assholes? Because they’re impossible to resist, of course.

Though the heat is simmering, the first book focuses more on setting the stage for the mysteries of Neverland. Little by little, we uncover its secrets, but don’t expect all the answers right away—this one ends on a damn cliffhanger. Thankfully, the entire series is published, so you can dive straight into the next installment without waiting.

If you enjoy reverse harem romances with ruthless, morally gray love interests, and don’t mind a cliffhanger or a darker tone, The Never King is absolutely worth your time. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Winnie and the Lost Boys in the next book!

Great reader

I really enjoyed the voiceover in this, the storyline was a fun take on Peter Pan, but for adults.

we love a spicy "retelling"

it's spicy, it's dark and it's a Peter Pan "retelling" but making it rated R - can't wait to continue this series

the Story Wasn't What I Thought

it was good, but I was expecting a tad bit more to be honest. I was expecting it to be a bit longer, but the story was great and the characters surprisingly fleshed out considering the length.

The female narrator did feel stiff at some points and it made the story a bit less engaging, but I absolutely loved the male voice.

Never thought about Peter Pan before

Honestly, I've never really given Peter Pan a serious thought, so buying this book was a whim because TikTok has been advertising it.
Well, now I am interested in Peter Pan and will get the next book because it ended on a cliffhanger!

Fun Fantasy Book

The reading and multiple voiceovers were great and made the listen much more immersive. Fun/twisted adult take on a classic tale and a quick, easy play through.

Gritty and steamy!

I absolutely loved this one, fantastic story even outside of how hot and heavy it was. Voice actors were superb, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Rereading it now with my husband for some extracurricular fun 😂

Great Tie Ins

Sex aside, this is a great book for an alternative Neverland. How the author brings and ties in key plot and story points from the original is very creative.
I enjoy finding how she’s decided to integrate some of the most iconic lines and scenes.
The voice of Peter Pan reminds me of Richard Armitage and it’s epic.
The only thing that I would change is the voice of one of the brothers.
Other then that, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the remaining two.
