About this listen

Engaging, incisive and acute, The New Puritans is a deeply necessary exploration of our current cultural climate and an urgent appeal to return to a truly liberal society.

The puritans of the seventeenth century sought to refashion society in accordance with their own beliefs, but they were deep thinkers who were aware of their own fallibility. Today, in the grasp of the new puritans, we see a very different story.

Leading a cultural revolution driven by identity politics and so-called 'social justice', the new puritanism movement is best understood as a religion - one that makes grand claims to moral purity and tolerates no dissent. Its disciples even have their own language, rituals and a determination to root out sinners through what has become known as 'cancel culture'.

In The New Puritans, Andrew Doyle powerfully examines the underlying belief-systems of this ideology, and how it has risen so rapidly to dominate all major political, cultural and corporate institutions. He reasons that, to move forward, we need to understand where these new puritans came from and what they hope to achieve. Written in the spirit of optimism and understanding, Doyle offers an eloquent and powerful case for the reinstatement of liberal values and explains why it's important we act now.

What the critics say

'A sober but devastating skewering of cancel culture and the moral certainties it shares with religious fundamentalism' Sunday Times

'Andrew Doyle has written a masterful broadside against the woke that will also discomfit the anti-woke, proposing to both the radical notion that rather than being identities, we embrace our status as individuals' Critic

Thank you Andrew Doyle!

This is a brilliant, reassuring book that quite fairly considers all of the stakes at play within the western world's fixation on social justice and identity politics. Doyle includes countless illuminating references/examples from philosophy, literature, history, popular culture, and journalism to bring richness to his investigations and observations. I agree with him that education must provide better tools for young students to understand how to think, not what to think. I just finished listening to this whole book in a single day, and I plan to now listen to it again!

Excellent

Andrew did an amazing job of explaining woke culture. He is not the first person I’ve heard, compare it to religion, and its because that statement is true.

I have ordered the hardcopy and will be reading it and taking notes this time.

great read

Andrew Doyle nails it. I have recommended this book to all I know, especially any that are in positions of authority and constantly ramming their CRT ideology down the throats of all their subordinates.

Comprehensive!

Incredibly comprehensive and well written, concise and enlightening, a worrying snap shot, that In the words of the author, we hope some day to be obsolete.

Everyone Should Listen to this!

I was sad when it suddenly ended because I could have kept listening to hours more.

So many important insights and historical contexts are discussed. Definitely a must read!
I really enjoy when the author narrates their own book. You can really hear the passion behind each argument.

Well done. We need more of this!

Outstanding!

Fantastic! A breath of fresh air! I can not give enough praise for this beautiful summary of the social/political climate of today and guide for how we can move beyond the insanity and find our way back to enlightenment. I’ve read several of the books cited by the author, and he does an excellent job of bringing together all the relevant fields of “critical social justice”, outlining the pitfalls of each one and how we can respond in order to bring our society back to a climate of free and open discussion and conquer the fear and obfuscation of those who seek to control our institutions for their twisted narcissistic goals.

I sincerely hope that the author’s vision for the future will come to fruition, and I implore anyone who cares about real justice and truth to read or listen to this book, stand up against ideological oppression and help create a brighter tomorrow!

A Must Read/Listen

For anyone who’s been “left” behind by the Woke Left and is reeling from the vitriolic rhetoric of this new religion. Free Thinkers from a spectrum of political leanings will be nodding their heads and raising eyebrows at the observations made here. You are NOT alone. As Mr Rogers said: “Find the Others.” This wave of toxic Wokism will dissolve and hopefully a rebirth of Reason will renew and invigorate our Western Culture. Great listen!

Examples of how history repeats are brilliant examples of how we can defeat nonsense again

Book starts and ends with the Salem witch’s trials and a coherent narrative takes us through the evolution of this so called societal change movement evolution to our present. It gives us the ability to understand how we can contribute to the madness dismissal not by ignoring but rather stand up when we are accused of “witchcraft”
