About this listen

A father and daughter try to survive the steady decline of all they know in this haunting thriller from award-winning author Ronald Malfi.

First the birds disappeared.

Then the insects took over.

Then the madness began.

They call it Wanderer's Folly - a disease of delusions, of daydreams and nightmares. A plague threatening to wipe out the human race.

After two years of creeping decay, David Arlen woke up one morning thinking that the worst was over. By midnight, he's bleeding and terrified, his wife is dead, and he's on the run in a stolen car with his eight-year-old daughter, who may be the key to a cure.

Ellie is a special girl - deep, insightful - and she knows David is lying to her. Lying about her mother. Lying about what they're running from. And lying about what he sees when he takes his eyes off the road.

Awesome Listen

Heart felt. I stumbled across this title in the Plus Catalogue and could not be happier that I decided to listen. A great story of love and loss.

Fantastic

Loved the story. Didn't have much in the way of surprises or crazy plot twists but was a great listen.

Good entertainment

I wasn’t thrilled with this book in the beginning. The pacing was too slow and I lost interest. I put it down for a few weeks and gave it another go and was pleasantly surprised that it picked up. In the end I enjoyed it. Solid story. Good ending. Yeah. Decent purchase. The voice acting was also in the good range, not amazing, but definitely solid and listenable.

Very emotional for me.

As a single parent dad who lost my wife/best friend last year, this one hit hard!!!

Good! Maybe a little too close to home?

Given the current situation of the world for the past few years, a story about a pandemic may be too soon for some people. An intriguing story with several layers. Easy to follow and I like that it had two stories that came together.
Characters are likeable and can be identified with. Enjoyed the narration however all of the "female" voices sounded pretty much the same.

Beautifully disturbing

Wanderer’s Folly is the nickname of a pandemic that’s left the birds dead, the bugs multiplying, and the infected going violently (and lethally) insane. Two years in, and David Arlen is on the run with his young daughter, Ellie: her mother has died in the hospital while helping use her pandemic immunity as a potential cure…and now the CDC wants Ellie.

Malfi is clearly a Stephen King fan (and I mean that as a compliment), because this road-trip “on the run” thriller is a wonderful mix of The Stand meets Firestarter. The last half-dozen chapters left me bawling and outright sobbing by the end. Solid narration by Tom Taylorson: this book is a must-listen.

A lovely story about a father and daughter

I enjoyed this book, the description doesn’t do it justice. The father protects his daughter and shows how much he loves her and that he will do whatever it takes. Occasionally the readers higher pitched female voice is a little comical but easily ignored.

Skip it

Concept was cool. Narration great. Writing was terrible. So much could have been cut out. It especially dragged on at the end. I regret my choice to listen to this whole book.
