About this listen

This remarkably fresh and charming best seller took the world by storm upon its publication. It has since earned two Booker Judges' Special Recommendations and was voted one of the "International Books of the Year and the Millennium" by the Times Literary Supplement.

Mma "Precious" Ramotswe sets up a detective agency in Botswana on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, making her the only female detective in the country. At first, cases are hard to come by. But eventually, troubled people come to Precious with a variety of concerns. Potentially philandering husbands, seemingly schizophrenic doctors, and a missing boy who may have been killed by witch doctors all compel Precious to roam about in her tiny van, searching for clues.

Chosen as a Top Ten Mystery by the Organization of Independent Booksellers, U.S.A., The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency is that rare novel that imparts a sage wisdom while inspiring hearty laughter and lasting smiles.

A wonderful story

I will be listening to more of the number 1 ladies detective agency stories. I really enjoyed learning about the culture. The thoughts of those involved in the story. The way everything tied together in the end.

Well written and well performed.

O Beautiful Botswana...

This is a story of Mma Ramotswe, but above all it is a story of Botswana. Through the investigations of this intrepid, resourceful and lovely lady, we are introduced to the everyday lives of people in this country. It's funny, sweet and, in many ways, nostalgic. Nostalgic because it reminds one of an age not too long ago when life was simpler, and people were closer, and dreams were younger.

A moving, interesting book

out of all audio books I have listened to thus far, I truly enjoyed this the most.
The writing style, as well as the reader, brings the story close to the reader and makes him feel like he's participating.
Absolutely love it.

A delight

I wasn't sure what to expect. And in the first chapters. I didn't know if I was going to continue but quickly got so engaged in the main character and the people around her. I love to the storytelling, the little bits of Africa that are brought out in the story and couldn't wait to see what the story brought next. The narrator is wonderful!

A quite enjoyable listen

Very delightful to listen to, it was entertaining, funny, but with an underlying sense of moral fibre.

I love Africa

The word pictures and the thoughts running through the characters minds make this a really good read. This is especially true if you have lived in Africa and love her people and her ways.

One of the most fitting narrations I've heard here

I loved the book. The simplicity of it and the depth of it. I loved the Africa it portrays. And the narrator has given it so much soul.
