About this listen
A complete guide to Friluftsliv, the Nordic secret to unplugging and connecting more deeply with nature.
In The Open-Air Life, Swedish-American writer Linda McGurk introduces listeners to a wide array of Nordic customs and practices that focus on slowing down and spending more and more of ones’ time outdoors. An outdoorsy cousin of hygge, friluftsliv is what Nordic people do outside all day before they cozy up in front of the fireplace with their wool socks on and a cup of hot cocoa.
From the pleasures of foraging for wild berries and birding to how to stay warm and cozy outside in the middle of winter, this inspirational guide shows listeners how to harness the power-of-nature to improve their physical and mental health, as well as their relationships with both other people and Mother Nature. Listeners will learn:
- Why and how they should spend more time outside
- How to use friluftsliv to combat stress, anxiety disorders, depression, and burnout
- Practical skills like making fire, cooking outdoors and cleaning water on the go.
For country and city lovers alike, this audiobook will serve as an essential guide to slowing down in this modern, fast paced society and connecting with the natural world.

Story
In Rooted, cutting-edge science supports a truth that poets, artists, mystics, and earth-based cultures across the world have proclaimed over millennia: Life on this planet is radically interconnected. Our bodies, thoughts, minds, and spirits are affected by the whole of nature, and they affect this whole in return. In this time of crisis, how can we best live upon our imperiled, beloved earth? Award-winning writer Lyanda Lynn Haupt’s highly personal new book is a brilliant invitation to live with the earth in both simple and profound ways.

Supported by evidence from emerging empirical and theoretical research and eye-opening anecdotes, Louv shows that when we tap into the powers of the natural world we can boost mental acuity and creativity, heal illness, broaden our compassion, and strengthen human bonds.

Story
Sometimes you slip through the cracks: unforeseen circumstances like an abrupt illness, the death of a loved one, a breakup, or a job loss can derail a life. These periods of dislocation can be lonely and unexpected. For May, her husband fell ill, her son stopped attending school, and her own medical issues led her to leave a demanding job. Wintering explores how she not only endured this painful time, but embraced the singular opportunities it offered. Ultimately Wintering invites us to change how we relate to our own fallow times.

Enjoyed it!
I enjoyed this book a lot. Did have a few moments where it felt a bit repetitive but not enough that it would stop me from listening . Love the outdoor living concept and it’s easy to incorporate into regular life
