I just can’t get into it

I want to read the story, I really do - but I cannot stand the narrator. The inflection and the breaking up of sentences is unbearable. I would prefer to hear this from the author directly, it’s her story, she knows how it’s supposed to sound. I need the personal emotion behind it to consider coming back to it.
